People like you kept bashing the Board's founder AustinGary, until he finally threw in the towel, left the board and hasn't been heard from since. I wish him well, miss his contribution to the board and his wide knowledge on many subjects regarding health, fitnes as well as on many other things.

This was before my time I think. Why did he keep getting bashed? Just curious.

There's some really great stuff in the archives by AustinGary and others -- intense TMS theory discussions and disagreements that make TT and Alexis's little feud look pretty tame. It's kind of awesome actually, I really enjoyed reading them one day when I had some spare time.

As far as I could tell, AustinGary got tired of devoting all his time to the board and felt it had lost its direction as a forum for debate, or was tired of debating, or something like that. I actually don't think it had to do with being bashed on, he seemed not to mind that, but I would have to look in the archives again and check -- there is a thread about why he left, so if you search for his name you can find it.

ETA: Here's one of the threads about him, after he left, which exemplifies what was apparently "the big debate" (a different one than Alexis and TT's but related):

It would very useful for everyone to read the early posts in this forum (which is acutally the Mark 2 version of the forum).

For a while the original Mark 1 version forum was still accessable, and in that long lost space is where the vast majority of austingary's posts were located. Used to be but no longer in operation... http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9

Here is an example...

I think if Sarno visited this site he would tell us to look to at our unconsciuos for the answers.

Sure, I think if Sarno visited this site he would tell us to look there for the solution to everything, because that's what he does. That's his business, and he's done very well with it.

To whatever extent he's right or wrong, it's still his business and you should never completely trust someone when they're making money (books and patients, in John Sarno's case) off their advice.

Actually, you should never completely trust any advice without question just because humans are fallible.

But whatever Sarno said to or about us, it's would not be of great consequence, because this site is not an homage to John Sarno or his ideas. Here, all ideas, including Sarno's, have always been up for discussion and argument. Personally, I hope that will never change.

Over the past week, we have seen with what over-the-top fervor a large percentage of Americans apparently long for a king, rather than a chief executive, as head of our government. I could not be happier that this week-long orgy of royalty-worship and fake grief over someone who was already dead, for all practical purposes, is over.

I bring that up in order to compare it with those who would like to turn this site into royalty-worship: install John Sarno as High Priest in the Church of TMS so they can slaver over him and his ideas.

In the long run, this kind of religious orientation to the anti-TMS work will not serve you, because it takes your attention away from the hard and cold fact that the total responsibility for your health, your fitness, your well-being, and living a life as free of pain as possible rests on you. It's your responsibility.

If you get good ideas from John Sarno, great. But you better just take them as more ammo for your battle, because it is your battle and no one else is there in the foxhole with you. Not John Sarno, not anyone. Your recovery is your responsibility. Own it.

Take care, -Stryder

Austin Gary was around when I first ran across this board. It seemed like he was much less of a TMS purist than Dave, more willing to take pains seriously as possibly "real" injuries. I was surprised to learn that he actually founded the board. I have to say that I lean more toward Dave's outlook as time passes.

Shawn. This is AustinGary's only post

quote:

The rest of that post was clearly somebody else responding to this quote, as the font is not italic.

Unless you really had problems with that single sentence of AustinGary's ?!?!?

Well I'm NOT glad he's gone. That's analogous to Adam and Eve saying, after God creates the Universe, "We're glad He's gone, he was always butting-in around down here".

I remember him saying something to the effect, "If you hit yourself on the hand with a hammer 800 times--that's NOT TMS. And, if you're seriously overweight and don't exercise, don't blame your problems on TMS.

It's a shame his wisdom to this board has been lost. Is there any way to resurect the lost archives?

This is good evidence why clay tablets and papyrus are far superior to the internet.

I fixed the quoted post from 2scoops and austingary to clarify who is speaking. Sorry for the confusion, the original formatting from 2004 was not clear. -Stryder

Sorry Tommy, I was busy (with my life) and did not have time yesterday. I see you posted a reply to this thread before you went to bed at night and then one as soon as you woke up in the morning. Hmmm, then you say you don't spend a lot a time on the board. Post your fictional schedule if you must, we all know the only time you leave your computer is to feed your 15 cats.

As for whether I'm a man or a woman, well, I'm guessing you're asking that to take some stab at me. I'm sure in one of my 20 some posts (I know it can't compare to your 2000) I mention my gender. And since it is obvious that you have studied my bio and looked through my old posts to find something to make fun of me about, you already know the answer.

You are correct; I haven't contributed much to the site. I came here for answers, of which you attacked me for asking (probably because you didn't have the answers). I’ll leave the answering to you since you are always on-line and reply to every post.

Tommy...I have a question for you? Do you consider yourself to be the TMS messiah? Or God's gift to TMS? Because after reading these sentences it kind of seems that way.

1. Yet you, feel entitled to slander and mock someone who has and does greatly contribute to providing ACCURATE TMS knowledge and help here.
2. So what is it that you have done with your life that qualifies you to take pot-shots at a stalwart of this board who has helped many people find the right track to TMS wellness?

You seem to think pretty highly of yourself for reading a book and then spitting out the same info.

Also why do you have so much hatred for people who work in offices? You made a similar comment in the post where you attacked me for no reason.

Wow, I'm really starting to get in your head.
1. You hate office workers,
2. You hate people who have different religious and political beliefs.
3. You crave attention (attention you get by posting to everything, bashing everything and everyone you don't agree with)
4. Your lonely (that is why you spend all your time on the board; you have even resorted to studying bios for mention of your name)

You are an angry, disturbed, little man Tommy. No wonder you have TMS. Breathe with me...in...out...let it go. Live and let live.

Gotta go, buddy. Bash at it...I must say I’m getting a little bored with this banter, so I may limit my responses. Since I will not even look at the board over the weekend (I know you will be glued to it), I’ll see you Monday. Have fun reading bios.

Sean, dear, Yes and No to all your inuendos. I will not reply much to you, my time is too valuble to waste it on your kind. You're the definition of a troll. I don't sort paper-clips for less than $100 hrly, yet I give my advice away here for free to you, you little ingrate. I'm your distraction from doing your TMS work, if I weren't here, you would need to invent me. Have you ever even looked at the excerpts in my link below that I so painstakingly transcribed just for you? I bet you have not, your're too busy OCD'ing here about me; YOU get a life, I've got one. (I just type and think at a pace faster than you can conceptuaize).

Once again, what's your contribution here? So you let ME, just one of many people, here drive you away from this board. You're certainly a courageous lad or lassie (trust me I have not wasted any time researching any of your posts beyond your bio where you don't even state (maybe you don't know for sure, it may be time to take a peek?)

If anyone of the bean-counter type, would ever do a word-count of my posts, I am certain that the TMS "support, info, and practitioners" verbiage would total to 98% and 2% "goofing" for the likes of you. When the dialog becomes so sublimely rediculous or tautological, there is no other choice but what is refered to on the internet as "goofing and flaming", it's not like I invented it and that it doen't happen elsewhere. GET A SENSE OF HUMOR (and a set of balls, I'm getting some Dunlop Grand Prix for my big weekend, the Pro-Penn's might work for you best).

Sean, it would make for a good asignment for you in fact to do the bean-counting and let me know the results. That's your assignment! Report back to me on Monday. Now go at it.

Thanks for the warm-up, Sean. Who said "pass the popcorn?".

Your board buddy,
tt

TT, you big old meanie. I'm going to tell my momma on you or I'll have my daddy beat-up your daddy.

LOL, What most of these people don't realize is your giving them an opportunity to vent their repressed anger.

THEY SHOULD BE PAYING YOU FOR YOUR SERVICES!

I've gotten a hell of a lot more out of your post than the people who are bad mouthing you.

Keep up the good work.

Tommy, posting all weekend I see. You're right your time is much too valuable to waste on me. There are so many other post to reply to.

The check is in the mail for all your valuable advice you have given me. Let me know when it shows up. Maybe you can buy your cats something special.

Time to get back to counting bean...Later buddy.

Did TT leave for good? Even though I haven't been around much since I got rid of my TMS pain back in 2003, I enjoyed TT and remember when he was a newbie himself. Does anyone know what AustinGary was up to? He always had some great input as well.

Ah Beth, Beth, Beth....

Maybe you can take over for him? Calling 2/3's of the board, in my estimation a fairly good guess as to the number who don't miss him, "incredibly thin-skinned," is an exaggeration positively TT'ish in its extent.

Since TT's left, I haven't seen one of those nasty fights break out in which he always seemed to play such a central role. Must be a co-incidence, right?

I like discussion, dissent, and high spirited argument as much as anyone, but with TT it always got angry and personal..

If he's reading this, and I'll bet you dollars to donuts he still checks in from time to time, my message to TT is that I miss his wit but not the constant battling.

Art,

Good try with your patronizing tone, to get me riled, but I'm not taking the bait today.

I notice that TT was not the one who had the "angry tone" in lots of the heated debates had on this board.

You also forget how much he helped out the newbies.

This thread made me totally sick.. I ate too much popcorn.

Somehow this reminds me of that movie Fight Club. Remember that one? Edward Norton attended all these help talkgroups for stuff like cancer, even though he didn't have any problem at all. Just needing a problem, a conflict. Pain broadens the contrast of everyday dull life. Just like using the auto-levels filter in photoshop, it makes the image more lifely.

I learned something today. There was an older forum with valuable posts which are now lost. Too bad the guys at the internet archive have never ever in the past 20 years indexed a single site correctly so I wouldn't hire them, but I thank them for their effords. I think a small percentage of posts is saved by them. For example:
http://web.archive.org/web/20040306142134/tmshelp.com/bin/tmsboard.pl?action=view&id=8364&page=1

Most posts on the forum are not archived but you can check different images here:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://tmshelp.com/bin/tmsboard.pl

I'm sorry probably all good stuff is gone. If it was me who was administrating the tms website back then, I would keep the database and figure out a way to insert it in the new forum version. Anyway, I just wanted to point out archive.org.
