As you may already know, Plum as temporarily suspended her
participation on the TMS message board. She has asked me to continue
posting Ace's keys to healing for discussion. Today I have decided to
post keys 4-7 together in this thread as they are so closely related.
Previous postings / discussion on these keys can be found at the
following threads:

Key 4 http://tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8060

Key 5 http://tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8068

Key 6 http://tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8073

Key 7 http://tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8077

4. Recognize that certain situations make your symptoms worse. This
is because you have said a lot of negative things, thought a lot of
negative thoughts, or done something with extreme intensity about
these situations in the past. This may be related to being sensitized
to the situation from your childhood or some other reason. You have to
decondition yourself to these situations

5. When you are in these sensitized (conditioned) situations, don't
run away from them, stay in them, sit in them and this time, take an
approach that you are comfortable in the situation. Behave opposite to
what you did before. If you have symptoms, don't let them bother you
or sensitize you more to the situation as best as you can. Use your
affirmations here.

6. Recognizing why you may be sensitized is helpful, but not essential
to recovery. It uncovers ways you may mentally strain as a overall
picture and allows you to apply directed mind power techniques.
(Described more below #10) (I.e. you were picked on as a child, now
any criticism from a spouse sparks very intense reactions, you see
this and now repeat I forgive and let go easily)

7. It is also important to note that situations that you have not
deconditioned yourself to will produce symptoms in you that make you
feel that you have made no progress even if you’re close to being
cured. Don't let this disway you as you only need to decondition
yourself to these situations as well.

When developing new ways of thinking and reacting to situations you encounter, you will experience inward resistance as your egoic mind wants you to remain attached to your old way of doing things. But you have the tools at hand and will succeed.

Yes, sometimes you will start to feel much better and think you are now "cured." You then begin to fall back into your old pattern of thinking and reacting which caused you to get TMS in the first place. It only appears, however, that you have made no progress as you witness your symptoms intensify. You now know what to do, based on past experience, in order to get back on track and will recover more quickly and permanently.

Don't sweat the setbacks and stay the course.

"The urge to just be done with what we are doing and to go on to the next task is the number one cause of tms and everything is compounded on top of this. It is so ingrained that most will not see it even when they are told that it is there. It took me a long time to see this and figure this out through deductive reasoning. It also explains why our society has a lot of back pain but it is non-existent in the tribal community." --- Ace

Thanks, Shawn, for posting these. I got a little lazy for awhile and now I am back to really working the keys. Numbers 4 to 7 are related, so I can see why to posted them all together. As you know, I was doing extremely well, almost too well. Lately, I have encountered quite a few situations and discussions that I have, over the years, become particularly sensitized to. These are still difficult for me and there are times, as Ace says, that I feel I have not made much progress. For example, a turn of affairs involving something I needed to obtain, made me extremely angry last week. I was justified to express some anger, or maybe frustration might be a better word. However, I failed to get right into the affirmations upon realizing that I was experiencing anger, and did not let go of the anger as soon as I should have. This caused me to have more mental strain that I should have had if I had been paying enough attention to the Keys. It is amazing how things can catch us off guard. At least, I am clearly seeing that my anger and frustration is my issue and not someone else's. I also have the power to not let it give me symptoms and pain. I am also starting to see how the mental strain feeds through our mind and body and we need to just let it pass through us and not become engaged with it, during those times when it is brought to us by various life situations.

Boy, like Ace said, the last 10% is really difficult, at times I think it's hell.
