5. When you are in these sensitized situations, don't run away from them, stay in them, sit in them and this time, take the approach that you are comfortable in the situation.

Behave opposite to how you did before. If you have symptoms, don't let them bother you as best as you can. Use your affirmations here.

"The master gives himself up to whatever the moment brings." ~ Lao Tse

I'm becoming more aware of my emotional experience in the moment. One practice that I have taken to heart is Andy's Giving Way. It's simply amazing how it transforms your mood, relationships and situation.

I'm favouring two affirmations. Both chose themselves naturally thereby avoiding any awkwardness or disbelief. I don't fare too well with the fake-it-til-you-make-it philosophy in this regard. Affirmations need to feel authentic or they don't pass muster.

These are the two I'm using. The first comes from shawnsmith:

"God loves me unconditionally."

The second arose by itself last night. I was very pleasantly surprised by it's little voice, even the doubting thomas in me is quiet.

"There is nothing wrong with me."

And not just physically, in every sense. Who I am is just fine and dandy too.

Hi Plum

This is not an affirmation
"There is nothing wrong with me." Your subconscious will get There is WRONG with me

Something like
I am completely well

There is everything right with me kinda like that

Sylvia,
You are right and this is important. Your unconscious mind does not understand negations.
If you want to talk to your subconscious in a meditative state, you have to use simple affirmations.

Thanks both, I know you're right. I guess it was a passing through sentiment that felt good during the realisation. I recall Candace Pert speaking on this subject, and she suggested creating affirmations with "I know...".

She offered this one:

I'm perfect just the way I am."

Much appreciate your imput.

Yes, Sylvia, but in his talks Dr. Sarno specifically tells his patients --- exact quote -- "If you have TMS there is NOTHING wrong with your back."

Right Shawn. This is a part of normal English speech which is probably why dr sarno said it this way. However for repeated affirmations it is better not to use the negative of a negative bc as Sylvia pointed out the mind sometimes latches on the the negative part.

This is hard because you have to forget all the excuses that you have previously considered for a certain situation!

Can you categorically prove this to be the case ACE1 with concrete evidence? I await your reply.

No evidence, just I heard that from more than one source. I also followed that advice and got better. I can't prove it , but the way I look at it is it doesn't take much effort to do it this way so why not

Shawn,
When you learn hypnosis or self-hypnosis, this is something that you learn first. Never use negations when talking to the unconscious mind.
In fact you can observe at fairs when a hypnotherapist talks to volunteers from the crowd. The hypnotherapist will always use some straight affirmation: When I say X, you stand up and say Y. Nothing complicated and fancy.
Same thing when they use hypnosis to treat addictions like tobacco.
