Ok, folks, here's a wacky question. For those of you who are well versed in TMS and all its manifestations, have you ever heard of a person having a stigmata "type" occurance on their body?
Let me explain. As some of you may remember from previous postings, in addition to back pain, which I've gotten good control of, I have also had a recurring problem with wrist TMS that won't let up. Ok, I know you're saying "will she please stop putting her energy on the physical stuff?" But hold on, bear with me becauuse this is too weird. Today, I have a raw, viscious looking, harsh, thick red hash mark on both my wrists where the TMS "tendinitis" acts up. I have two distinct dry, red marks on both wrists. With all due respect, I'm not trying to be freaky here, is it possible to have these kinds of reactions that go way beyond the oxygen deprivation cause of TMS? I mean, is the oxygen deprivation able to cause such a freaky, sudden condition? I am very curious to know how others out there would see this. Is it the TMS just looking even harder at ways to distract me, to convince me even more that it's tendinitis, trying to trick me, deviate my mind towards the physical? I know this is probably what is happening but has anyone else seen this type of bizarre reaction?

It's the beast

Seriously, I'll get out of the way and let those who have a clue what they're talking about give you some answers, but I did want to just say that given what I've been reading on this very forum, I would say that the answer is yes, that TMS could cause something like this...

I intuitively like your analysis and so would want to look at it as a good thing because it proves in a roundabout way that it's simply the TMS demon (word seems appropriate here ) desperately trying to hang on by throwing yet another "symptom" at you..

Keep up the good fight and I have no doubt you'll prevail..As I say that, I find myself absolutely believing it, which is another good thing because if it works for you it should work for me...

Mary,

With all the TMS equivalents I've had then I would have no doubt what you are describing is TMS trying desperately to grab your attention. I've had weird stuff too and have posted on here. I swear, the weirder it is the more convinced I become that it's TMS. It's almost funny the lengths the gremlin will go to in order to grab my attention. The latest thing I've had is this sensation in my right thumb that someone is burning it or putting scalding hot water on it. It goes away for a few weeks and if I think about it, it starts up again (I swear!). Weird!!! The dizziness is weird in and of itself. It manifests when I start thinking about it, it happens when I lean forward to put clothes in the dryer, but I can do yoga and NOTHING happens. Again, really weird! Then, for a few months I had the red eye thing. It looked like I had pink eye, but it kept happening over and over, even with the use of so called antibiotic eye drops. That was fun (not). I've also had the weird "burning tongue" thing, where my tongue feels like I have cotton mouth and it's almost a sensation where it feels coated or something. One time I had something like 20 canker sores in my mouth and had to have them cauterized (also fun). The wackier the symptom the better. It's almost funny, you know?

How horribly ugly this whole thing can get!
Such a wacky bunch of symptoms, huh?
I hope you get better.
Thanks for replying.

I changed the subject line since to wrist rash since it may have been weird to some before the way I wrote it.

Actually Mary, rashes...and let's come back to earth a bit as that's all we're talking about here, are well-known psychosomatic manifestations...I've had rashes myself when under stress...I think it's as simple as that...

On the other hand, maybe its useful for you to look at your interpretation of the thing...Freudians, as well as any psychodynamic type psychologist or psychiatrist( a buzz word from my college days simply referring to the psychological model that holds that there's a subconscious portion of the mind) generally argue that there are no accidents in this realm..If you see stigmata where others are seeing rash, this might provide some clues as to certain subconscious goings on that may or may not bear on your TMS

Hey, Mary,

I was just curious - did you read in Sarno's books about the guy who had a rash on his ring finger? No other gold rings caused the rash, just the one from his wife (he was in an unhappy marriage). I don't remember the story exactly and am too busy to go look it up, but check out what Dr. Sarno has to say about rashes.

Mary, a friend of mine had similar mini-rashes to the type you're describing on the palms of her hands that she used to call her "stigmata". She went to the doctor (this was a couple of years ago) and he took a look and said, "Ah, stress stigmata". He didn't appear particularly amazed or surprised, she said, so maybe they're actually quite common. Quite strange, though!
