TMS is not something you have…..it’s not something you’ll be cured of. It’s like a bum……it’ll always be there. Sometimes when you eat the wrong thing your bum will give you some unpleasant feedback. Does that mean you should get rid of the bum….no you need it. It plays a role in your life, so you learn to love the bum. Same thing with Chronic pain…….it’s simply feedback.
You do the wrong thing, and you’ll get pain, pain is a result. Constant Negative thinking, worry, fear, insecurity, anger, complaining, not doing what you want in life…….these all generate negative emotions. Some of you think like this all day long…..and generate negative emotion all day long……..which some will get repressed at some point. So TMS is not a thing….you can’t push it away. You are TMS and TMS doesn’t exist without your crappy thinking…..so take responsibility! When you take responsibility the power is with you…..you can change things. Accepting it doesn't mean you give it permission to remain….but it is what it is. Now take some positive steps to change your thinking. Nothing is going to ease your pain but you. You have the theory……..now you have to actually do the work!
TMS will always be there, just like your bum. If you abuse the system you will get some negative feedback. Don’t hate your pain…….it’s the best thing that has ever happened to you…..learn to love it because it will guide to a better life if you learn to go with it.

Thanks Darko - this really resonated with me. I think I've spent my whole life not being the person I want to be. I've locked her away inside (repressed her), and right now she's clamouring to come out. I'm so tired of all my negativity, worry and fear. I want to be vibrant and colourful; I want to be the real me, and not this insipid, timid little people-pleaser. Most of all I want to feel my emotions, and not constantly side-line them, or be embarrassed about them.
The last four and a half years have been a real wake up call. My pain has led me to this point in my life. It has led me to begin to make changes for the better. |

Yay......I managed to get one person :-) It was starting to look like a pointless post....but it is such an important concept on the road to recovery. We don't allow ourselves to feel because we think it's wrong......expressing is different all together....but to feel is what the human experience is all about.
Negative thinking is hell.....it will ruin our lives and cause pain so it's important to understand the concept.
The best thing I can say is stop focusing on the pain, or trying to do things to get rid of it. Focus on you, and becoming the best you can be.....and the pain will take care of itself.
Good luck to you Cath!

Thanks for the post Darko. It appealed to me and is a very good description of what TMS is. For me every day is a new "battle" to do the work and not sink back in self pity, despair and giving up but a post like that always gives me another push. Also thanks to Cath for describing so accurately what she is dealing with. It could have been written by me except I could not have expressed myself so clearly. |

Not pointless at all, Darko. I often get something out of a post but don't necessarily have anything to add right away.
