Marlis,

The wonderful thing about focusing on the good moments in life is that over time, this simple practice begins to change our brains, they literally rewire with happier circuits. The more we notice the sweet and the good, the more sweetness and goodness we find. Even bitterness and darker times take on a different feel because they are buffered by kindness (to self, to others, for life).

Naturally all this benefits healing. How often do our minds go down blind alleys of pain and fear? TMS feeds on this but it cannot survive in an atmosphere of faith and joy.

So aside from being a lovely thread, it really does have a power and a point. Thank you for joining in. I love the glimpse into your happy moments.

Warm hugs x

Live like a cat, love like a dog. Silly slices of wisdom.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Hello Plum,
Yes I believe you are right. With practice we could change our focus
and become better at appreciating the small good things in life
(they don't even cost anything). Of course there is such an abundance in nature at the moment which makes it very easy to find fantastic moments but maybe constant practising helps to also see them in the dull winter days. Otherwise I will just have to concentrate on cake recipes and the delights of food....

Gigalos, no tree yet and no appenticitis either. So I keep eating them. The cherries just taste so much better. I do it with prunes too.

Finally reading Claire Weekes (my second book besides Sarno's) and being amazed at how much applies and applied! to you...

ah, is this not happiness..

Getting a 'sorry' from someone who left the roundabout without signalling. Rare these days..

ah, is this not happiness..

Receiving dozens of pictures of you nephew and nieces holding all kinds of animals (snakes, lizards, birds, the lot) in an Australia Zoo. They show no fear at all.

ah, is this not happiness..

Watching a two year old splashing with water and filling a bucket with stones. He is so absorbed in the task that he is not aware (or does not care) of being totally soaked.

I am looking at my lavender bed in bloom. Imagining lavender fields of the South of France. But this will do.

Frying sausages in an open fire and making the best possible tomato sauce because of the abundance of herbs which are not available in winter.

Ah is this not happiness

Telling your stressed colleague (back pain, sore lip, that's how I knew) to take some time every day to forgive himself and forgive his girlfriend for breaking up while having a three year old girl. When I spoke the words I saw I struck a chord and he accepted it as his symptoms' flare-ups could all be connected to events connected to that situation.

ah, is this not happiness.. although the situation isn't, helping someone take a step in the right direction is

reading Claire Weekes in the warm evening sun, occasionally watching the spectacular white veils in the surrounding blue sky.

ah, is this not happiness..

Sun-scorched grass invoking memories of a blissful 1970's childhood. Uncommon joy on loan, borrowed for a short time and remarkable in that it takes only three or four days to exact the consolation. Somehow I am reminded of myself before the fade and the cool.

The best of summer.
No traveling and no fictions.
Simply a story from childhood retold and unblemished.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Yesterday I decided to pull through on a job I have dreaded for a long time; making a hole in my wall to connect an airco. This meant standing on a 15 feet ladder with a hammer and chisel. I took Claire Weekes' words in mind and slowly worked my way through. I am sore now, but that is from using muscles I rarely use. Small victory!!

Sitting in a cool room when it is nearing 30°C outside.

Took an evening dip in the north sea. Rode my 20 year old racing bike to impersonate Christopher Froome and conquered the dunes... barely :) (a father and child even started to encourage me as if I was climbing the Alpe d'Huez) to finally arrive at a calm sea with copper sun shining above the horizon. Salt on my skin, sand in my shoes, a numb butt and back just in time to see the last lap of the tour de France.

ah, is this not happiness..

(so sore right now , but worth it )

A Summer storm violently rips through the quiet early morning. The Gods beat their drums for a good four hours and at the end, the exhausted world leaves its expression to barking dogs and police sirens.

Oh Lord I love storms. They are. They are.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Indeed. Fancy forgetting the icing on the cake.
The fresh, clean aroma all earthy and green, standing on the balcony breathing deeply, imbibing the newness and feeling like you too have cast off a tired, old skin.

Ah, is this not happiness.

(hope your soreness has passed.)

I love how you have described it... :)

Sipping a home made tea from Moroccan mint and lemon balm out of your garden...

ah, is this not happiness..

(the soreness was the good kind of soreness that doesn't stick around for more than two days.. as it should)

Hearing your parents talk about their early years in marriage. My father buying a BMW Isetta of his first money and how my mother loved to be driven around in it (NOT!). The smile on their faces and the laughter...

Amen to the right kind of soreness, and wisdom to know the difference.

(Any Moroccan mint and lemon balm tea going begging? Love mint teas.)

Reminiscence, and that rare glimpse into who our parents were when they were younger than we are now.
