....I know how i think psycological-ill shift my focus from the pain to an unsolved problem or something i have to accomplish, something im angry or anxiuos about,-a goal, something peaceful....i found that i had to feel in my mind that they were actually happening before they were and then within hours i would start to feel peace instead of just saying it-i would feel hope instead of just thinking it-this was my method ;i just know theres different methods ..any replies would be thankful |

Hi E.W.,
Maybe this quote from page 106 from SteveO's "GPD" will help answer your question:
"Sic Vis Pacem Para Bellum Latin: If you want peace, prepare for war
"Something very subtle was happening at this time. I had become so invested in my daily routine that I hadn't noticed that I was hitting more golf balls and getting stronger. This is an important aspect of recovery. My focus had now shifted from one obsession to another. My mind's eye was no longer primarily staring at my body or my recovery pace. It was now about 75 percent on my body and 25 percent on my activities. My attention and focus (emphasis mine) were being shifted away from my pain and reeducation was occurring. My recovery was progressing, but more importantly, it was progressing in the correct manner--by shifting focus."
Hope that helps,
tt

I think what doctor Sarno mean when he said think psycological is: when you have a tms/anxiety symptom you have to realize that it is there because of negative emotion, not because there is something wrong with you physically.
When a health worry thought enter your mind, acknowledge that it is there, label it as tms/anxiety, dismiss it from your mind, then go do something, focus on something else.

Hi Eric,
I have used three versions of this issue. When I think of the word psychological, I think of a statement I made up: “Psychological, it’s all psychological”. After all everything is affected by our thoughts.
1.You can translate this to thinking about what individual event actually caused or increased your pain. Thereby acknowledging your pain is real, but the reason for it is not structural or serious. This could be current events or past childhood issues revealed from journaling.
I don’t have much pain today, but in February in my thread “The only possible explanation”, I talk about how I actually attributed a sudden pain to an event after 12 years of being pain free. The event was a nasty argument with my wife.
2.You can think psychological all day long with mindfulness. Ace1 and Balto describe this very well. Making a concerted effort to change your thought process, reduce the negative thoughts, and slow down, giving thanks for your life and all its blessings. Sort of meditating all day long.
I had a wonderful day last Saturday, my wife and I went to our granddaughter’s soccer game. On the way we stopped to give to a homeless person. My wife knew his name and you could see the gratitude and thanks in his eyes. I asked how she felt, and we discussed doing this more often and upping the ante (for inflation). This set the tone for the day, at the soccer game I looked at other people with love and connection. I had become mindful of my surroundings and the happy people doing the best for their children. My happiness bubble lasted all day.
3.On occasions you can think psychological about your pain by talking to it. Telling it you know it’s benign, of no value, and that you understand it is just there, and no threat to you.
When carrying very heavy bags down my hillside the other day, with 30 lb bags of leaves in each hand I stopped and reminded myself that my lower back that was healed, but now aching slightly, that my back was indeed very strong. Try that with your heavy tiles. Your bio says you are ready for this; you have 1000 daily opportunities to think psychological. Good luck

Thats awesome andy 64tms-you have a lot of insight ,and yea if repeated a thousand times a day -ill have many great psycolgical formulas to work with-it looks like you just gave me plenty more and your a great person for doing that-this is why i wrote the thread because everyone should know all the steps to the rd to healing-this helps us young guys catch up sorta say-i have been doing mindfulness for a while now-i learned it by reading a book by a dr named fink, i know he was a pavlov deciple and it was like a light bulb went off in my head-thanks again -yea i really needed different methods as to the 1000 bends is no joke so i have to switch up through out the day i might focus on not hurting if i start to hurt ,mindfulness, visualizations, the guys will be like what are you thinking about....relaxation was a method of mindfulness i used earlier today when i saw my foot shaking anxiously so i told my self to calm doun, excepted that and it happened.thanks for all your methods,i dont care if some are along the same line -its the methods and different styles that are working for me....i just know someone else wants to comment too so im looking forward to more methods or styles of thinking psycological-oh and thanks again in advance |
