New member. I have been a TMS victim for most of my life but didn't know it until recently. I had a "near-death" experience when I was twenty and since then have known that all illness is a result of negative emotions. I just never knew that "injuries" could be illness. I've been hard on my body, I just thought that I was paying the price. Low back and sciatica were mostly, though not entirely, my symptoms. Had a laminectomy twenty years ago and that got me past the suicidal thinking bad pain - though it was undoubtedly my change in thinking at the time that "cured" me. A little over a year ago I went through almost a year where I pushed myself emotionally and physically to the limit. I developed a neck condition that decreased my mobility by about 75% and didn't let me get more than a couple of hours of good sleep at one time. When I started to mildly panic that I might have a permanent disability I tried chigong, physical therapy, massage, and a bone-cracker. All to no avail - though massage was great while it lasted. About then, I got a mailing from a company that was selling "The Release Technique". About a week later I ran across Dr Sarno - eventually bought all three of his books and the videos. The short of it is, I cured my neck pain with the Release Technique almost immediately. With Sarno, I found out what I had done. I have searched this site and couldn't find any mention of the Release Technique - which I find interesting, as they went together so well for me. And continue to work well for me. They sell the technique as a set of audio tapes for about $200 - of course with a seemingly endless amount of "advanced" courses which I have not experienced (maybe will). Even though the actual technique takes about five minutes to explain, I don't begrudge them the 200 because it is something I wouldn't have found otherwise. But, the basic technique involves feeling a negative emotion and then visualizing it leaving through one's emotional center they describe as in the stomach or chest and undoubtedly corresponds to the solar plexus nerve center (emotional chakra of Indian religion). The tapes just run through the emotional feelings and focus you on the feeling of releasing the emotions (they suggest visualizing a tube inserted into the feeling center and allowing the emotion to flow out). Whatever, but there seems to be a rewiring going on the mind - I suspect a feedback loop between the two nerve complexus that, when broken, allows the unconscious to rewire somethng, somehow. I am, of course, guessing here. But, for me, it works. I think you can try it without spending the 200. They make a lot of other claims one should probably take with a grain of salt - about financial success, etc, etc. But, then, freeing the mind of emotional uglies, can have lots of benefits. After I lost my neck pain, I was assaulted by a variety of almost unbelievable pains in the legs, hips, and shoulders. so much that a couple of days I could barely walk. Other days couldn't raise my arms. But things are looking up. Because of Sarno, I know what's happening - sort of. It's not easy even with a strong belief. Good luck to you all. I have always thought that pain sign posts were better than the silent processes that usually show up just before death. We are the lucky ones, right? Yeah right.

Hi Bandabill

Welcome to the forum.

I actuall tried the "Sedona Method" which is a release technique, and even perhaps the one of which you speak?

Anyways,my friend burned it onto CD for me when I was struggling with Anger/Drug dependency...after I recovered from my pain,I went on an odyssey of feeling waves..high and low...when I would get depressed I would have fits of rage OR use narcotics....not for pain,...to get good and OUT of it.

I have had dependency issues in the past,so he suggested the Sedona Method.....I tried to do the technique, but the guys voice was so soothing that I would inevitably fall asleep....a little TOO released.

Which release technique are you talking about?...I still have a few issues that I need to deal with, and fortunately/unfortunately I FEEL them intensely(rather than get a symptom).

InFo???

thanks

hey baseball
I can't really tell you for sure but I think the Sedona method must be similar - at least I think they both have their roots in the method a guy named Lester Levenson developed or incorporated from somewhere. It sounds like two individuals or groups split but are using the same basic method. At least that's my guess. I never found the release technique tapes very tranquilizing, in fact I listened to them all while driving. If you are interested I can send you one that covers the basics. I like it because you don't have to set any time aside to work it, you can do it whenever you can discern an emotion. Of course having no time to actually spend taking my mind out of gear, is part of the problem. But who says we can't have it all?

I have the book "The Sedona Method" and also the set of tapes for 200 dollars. This "release technique" has been very helpful in mending my relationship with my husband. Now things that happen that are I percieve to be negative, I can just release instantly and they no longer bother me. I just have to rember to keep releasing. I use it alot when driving, interacting with people, etc. I have tried this method with my physical problems, especially the dizziness and shoulder immobility but no luck so far. I need to really get at the root emotional cause for these problems first. But I found the release technique extremely helpful in not letting the behavior and actions of others effect you. Lester Levenson is the guy who started this entire movement. He was diagnosed with an incurable heart condition at the age of 40 and was told that he would soon die, that he had only months to live. Well he researched methods for months and months alone in his New York City apartment and came up with this method. He went on to live until his 80s in perfect health and complete happiness. On his death bed, he passed on his teachings to two men,Larry Crane and the man wrote the Sedona Method. Larry Crane wrote the course called "The abundance course". Both involve the release technique. The story of Lester's life is amazing. I have some of his original tapes from the 70s and 80s and the things he says are very profound, simple, yet very profound.
There is quite a bit of info about him on the internet.
To me Sarno's ideas go hand and hand with this, that many afflictions are just the result of our thought patterns..
