Hi all,
I'm just wondering if any of you have dealt with gum issues and found them to be TMS related. So I do know that TMJ is TMS, but that's muscular. I'm talking specifically about gum issues like gum recession. I'm somebody who has had MANY TMS equivalents over the past 12 years of my life, and I'm very suspicious about this gum recession issue, for several different reasons. Clearly it's on my mind, since both the thought of getting grafts and the thought of losing teeth are anxiety provoking.
I've tried to do research on oxygen deprivation and the gums, or the immune system and gum disease, but I haven't come up with any smoking gun.
Any experiences? |

Obsessing about it would be TMS.
I would try a Paleo Diet. |

Not everything in the world is TMS, including gum recession. Go to a good periodontist and get yourself checked out. If you do have periodontal disease and don't treat it, you will indeed lose your teeth. UNtreated periodontal issues can have implications for your general health, which makes it even more important to get it attended to.

I have experience with gum issues. I'm not going into detail because I don't want to focus too much on my memories of it.
In 2002 when my back pain nightmare was going on I had a regular dental cleaning and was told that I needed to have root planning and scaling done. I read all the literature on this procedure which really scared me and I obcessed about it. The hygienist had said I had some mild to moderate pocket depths around my jaw teeth but I made a really big deal out of it. Anyway not long after this I developed a gum abcess while searching for a periodontist. I developed gum pain and couldn't chew food without pain. Teeth pain started, finally had a far back jaw tooth extracted even though nothing was found to be wrong with it. And the story goes on and on with another root planning and scaling done. Since then I've been getting my teethed cleaned every 3 mos. to maintain my gums. I floss every time I eat and use interdental brushes and a regular brush.
Then several years ago after seeing a doctor for levator ani syndrome and was told that it was a muscle spasm and realizing that it was TMS all along something good happened. With this revelation and applying Dr. Sarno's wisdom I stopped the levator ani syndrome, IBS, teeth and mouth pain and on my next dental cleaning was told that my gum pockets had greatly improved totally surprising my dental hygienist.
I look back now and realize that TMS took advantage of the whole thing about my gums. It wasn't a big deal until I panicked.
I haven't had gum or teeth pain in several years until last Friday when I was so furious about something but had to hold it in. That afternoon my right lower teeth and gums started to hurt really bad and I couldn't touch them for the pain. But I realized what was happening this time and started the TMS work. Tonight it is just about gone.
Instead of thinking that not every thing is TMS I think that just about every thing is. But you do need to find a periodontist and get the work done that is needed and then maintain it with regular cleanings and flossing AND TMS work. I don't doubt that oxygen was deprived from my gums either causing or worsening the condition. But the damage was done and had to be fixed.
This is the short version and I hope it helped.
