Yep, when I was about 21 I was made redundant. I used the opportunity to do some study, but that was when my back pain started. |

That's a major life change. Much stress. Many intensely unpleasant emotions, especially fear and anger. A veritable panoply of psychosomatic symptoms would not be unexpected.

they recently cut some jobs where my mom works. she is 63 years old. of course they let her go. it made alot of people at her work angry b/c she was a far better worker than the other people the company kept. my mother who already takes medicine for high blood pressure had to go back to the doctor b/c her blood pressure had become uncontrollable with the meds they had been working.
her sudden uncontrollable blood pressure was due to being laid off. i had suspected this and upon talking to her, she was very angry inside. feeling they let her go because she was "too old" and many other things she had going through her mind. she is doing better now. but i dont know when they are gonna start reducing the meds they put her on.
one thing to try and understand is that this lay off isnt the end of the world. time goes by faster than we realize and in a few months when you are working somewhere else and life is back to normal again that layoff will be insignificant to you. take this time from the layoff to do some tms work, get back to the simple enjoyments for a little while, learn a new trade if you'd like, hopefully you can get unemployment benefits during this time also.

scman, my other half was recently laid off and not only has he been suffering from a variety of symptoms, so have I. But I recognise them for what they are - physical reactions to how I am feeling psychologically at the moment: angry, let down, upset, sad...emotions I keep to myself so I don't burden anyone else. |

Absolutely yes, you start ruminating and get depressed. The best thing I find, is to get some daily exercise, for at least half an hour, like walking, running, swimming, etc. This will give you something to structure your day around, look forward to, maintaining a healthier mindbody. This important 30 minutes a day will give you the strength to carry-on and get through a rough patch on to better times.
