Hi everyone,
I've had significant improvement in most of my physical health issues (plantar fascitis, achiles tendonitis, fibromyalgia, wide spread muscle tension and TMJ "symptoms") for the past few weeks since I accepted they were all due to TMS (yay!).

However, I'm having a tough time getting rid of my acid reflux despite meds and lifestyle changes. I recognize that it is likely due to TMS and keep telling myself that and not letting myself get upset over the symptoms but I'm more concerned with getting rid of the reflux because I don't want damage to my esophagus. Has anyone successfully cured themselves of TMS induced acid reflux?

Many thanks :)

If you can stop fearing what acid reflux would do to your esophagus then it will disappear in no time.

I haven't cured myself but things are better after 2 months on over the counter pepcid and now just using pepcid and Carafate (prescription) prn...You can take anti-acids for extended periods of time - more than your doctor may prescribe - just do some research on the net for the duration limits per med and most can be obtained over the counter...You may need to do this to settle down the existing inflammation and start with a clean slate esphogas-wise...I try to use TMS with acid reflux and it is only somewhat successful - sometimes I am able to divert the beginning of the discomfort by acknowledging the precipitating factors - operant conditioning (expecting discomfort with certain types of foods), childhood upbringing, perfectionist personality, current stress.

Thanks everyone. I'm taking medication at the moment but also really working hard with the TMS approach. In time I may ditch the meds all together. I'll be seeing a gastro for another issue, soon, so I may request that PH test to make sure that the source of my redness and swelling in my throat is really due to acid so that I'm not taking meds for nothing. My only symptoms are the sore throat and lump sensation. Thanks, again :)

What meds are you taking? I'd thoroughly research any drug you take regularly, since many of them can have widespread side-effects that far outweigh their benefits. Don't expect this kind of warning from your doctor though; expect additional meds to treat the new symptoms as they arise to fuel the process of health degeneration.

Have you been tested for allergies? Many people have intolerances to things like dairy or gluten without having a clue about it. You might also want to read a bit about inflammation and try to judge how well your diet is balanced in terms of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory nutrients. You may be interested to know that the average Western diet has an imbalance in the way of pro by 20-30 times...

Chronic inflammation is much more widespread than you may think, and if you experience stiffness and pain and other symptoms that can be attributed to it (like acid reflex), I'd make changes to your diet top priority. Given the benefits in prevention of heart disease, arthritis, cancer and all sorts of other ailments, it's well worth doing anyway. Try asking your doctor for blood tests for nutrient levels, allergies, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP). A high level of CRP indicates the presence of chronic low-grade inflammation.

If your doctor knows his stuff, and you've already been through all this, then start hitting the TMS literature

I started taking a PPI (Prevacid and others) about 5 years ago. I have read about the harm of having NO acid. I have also read about Barrett's esophagus which can lead to esophageal cancer. What I wouldn't want to see is someone discontinue a med and get enough erosion to cause this. It's no joke.

I had reflux after a dinner of too much Chinese food. It woke me up choking and gasping for breath. I should have just chalked it down to a bad evening and never started taking a drug. I have tried to wean off it and it backfired. I have had 2 endoscopies and they see an irritation but they don't see any structural defect except a small hiatal hernia which most people have after 50.

I would say get an endoscopy, see what's going on. Go to a good gastroenterologist, do some research online, check their credentials, ratings at vitals.com or ratemds. These are not that reliable because their friends could be writing the ratings but it's better than nothing. What I plan to do is cut the dose (I already have) then switch to a milder class like Zantac, then hopefully get off a med altogether. I also follow the guidelines as far as certain foods, my bed is elevated at the headboard, I try to not eat after 7...all of this is online. Look at it this way, there were no drugs like this in our parents time and they didn't suffer all the time, they took Bromo Seltzer, they didn't die of cancer. I hope you find a good solution!

There are more than 1 billion Chineses eating Chinese food every day for years and acid reflux is extreme rare in China. Drug companies created this conditioning thought about chinese food so they can sell more antacid. I used to have acid reflux and I used to retrict what I can eat what I can not eat for fear it would hurt me. Now I eat anything I want. With the help of mindbody medicine I cured myself. Those pills the doc gave are just placebos to me. Unless you have stomach cancer or tumor or food poisonning, most stomach trouble in my opinion came from stress. Human are like rats, we are omnivores, we suppose to eat everything that is edible. Remember when we were young and going to school to take the final exam that we were not really ready for? Our stomach churn, we have butterfly... is it because of our thought or is it because of mom's homemade breakfast?

I have always had a "nervous stomach". Now they call it IBS...who knows. It was the final exam...immediate brain to gut reaction. My best friend in elementary school would throw up before exams. It's all in the brain...I mean, look at sex. If you have sex and think about something else completely, things won't work. Without our thoughts, we can't feel those feelings (even when we're alone thinking about our mate). So it follows for every other part of our body.
