Hi guys,

I was reading today about former NBA player Bill Walton's chronic foot problems that dramatically shortened and plagued his career (in David Halberstam's "The Breaks of the Game" - which I heard was the greatest sports book ever written, and the least I can say is it's excellent). Walton was diagnosed with stress fractures in his feet.

I'd never had or really understood stress fractures, but apparently they aren't detectable by X-ray, and are supposedly the product of repeated use and physical stress over time?

This struck me as remarkably TMS-like. Anyone else have any expertise on TMS and stress fractures?

My daughter is a marathon runner and this year suffered a stress fracture in her foot. The doctor told her that this was a common injury for a runner. It was visible on an x-ray . It healed in about six weeks and she is running again. Not TMS in her case.
