Hi Texasrunner and every and anybody else who posted on the throat issue string,OR anybody with some insight/overview.
IT happened again. It usually comes every three months or so...I get a pain in the throat under one cheek or the other...lymph gland or eustacian tube is the usual location. The last time it came,I had just been told I would have to perform in a contest out of state at a Music festival.
The usual diagnosis I get from MDs is: You have really small ear canals, and with all the fine particle sanding you do,it gets trapped in the canal, can't drain, and that's why you get these.
The spot (left lymph node THIS time) is tender to pressure, but there is no exact spot..it sort of moves around.
I was wondering what emotional stuff could have triggered it this time...I'm getting along with my boss I normally spar with? ....I'm getting along with the Mrs.,but resent spending my days off as a babysitter? ...I came to Nashville to work on my music career, but I'm pushing a brush again? ....The publisher I met with 6 weeks agao told a friend he really liked my stuff, but he hasn't called me? ...my health insurance expires in 2 weeks, and of course I must have throat cancer and really bad things are going to happen to me? ....???????????
I went and got a scrip of Zithromax(anti-biotic) but have yet to take it...The symptom was "killing me at work today when I had a moral obligation to work overtime for the big bosses Xmas party...it subsided when I got off work....... do I really have small ear canals? is that as stupid as a herniated disc.....these ear throat things have been waaaaaay to frequent in my life.....does TMS still F with me,and is too clever to ever go to my back again??
I wonder
comments??????????observations??????????

Oh yeah... Everytime I don't,I get into a rut, even if no symptoms appear.
But,I journaled before I had TMS and got it anyway....it was sarno's Identifying the relationship between the symptoms and the paper that made everything "click"....in fact..I see the psycological in everything, but like any child of god,am constantly learning new stuff....I'm wondering if I'm making a new distinction,or just painting the world thru TMS colored glasses??

That certainly sounds like a peculiar diagnosis to me--as if the doctor were saying "I have no idea what is causing this, so I'm just going to make up something." You're lucky he didn't suggest getting a vacuum cleaner to clear out your ears! I would certainly be thinking "probably TMS."
I should add that I have noticed in some of your previous posts that you have written about being 110% cured of TMS, no pain, etc. When I read those comments, I was concerned because many of us have return bouts with TMS throughout our lives. It may just be superstition on my part, but I wanted to say, "Don't tempt the TMS devil--he will just come back and try harder next time." |

Hi Jim D. I'm in a horrible way now,emotionally...and I'll still say 110%!! I'm not superstitious,I walk under ladders,I open umbrellas indoors,and I never throw salt.
TMS in the original book was "Tension Myositis syndrome"...I know we've broadened it out to be "the mindbody syndrome" ,but at certain points you have to declare 100% victory....
Now,as for TMS equivalents....that is a life time of study. Most of the people I correspond with are in PHYSICAL pain(body/structural) and in spite of my lingering doubts about other possiblities,I would be condemning them to a partial debilitation if I wasn't candid about a 110% physical recovery, the extra 10 being the courage returned that I'd slowly lost during the 10-15 years seeing the "structural medical community" But I don't think I've jinxed myself.....I'm not even sure I DON'T have an infection, however I'm always openminded to ANYTHING being Psychosomatic...e.g. I smoke, have had pneumonia, and am around kids a lot(not smoking of course)...I get about 3 colds per winter. One winter,a fellow mindbody subscriber told me that a cold was symbolic of indecisiveness about some thin in the sufferers life....for 18 months, every time I felt a cold symptom,I started to think "I wonder what I'm indecisive about?" I went a year and a half without getting a cold. Than,as I became "distracted" I stopped believing in this and BAM...I got my regular 3 colds....curious? Always laugh at TMS,but always study it too!!!
peace

Baseball65- Like I said before, the neck/throat area is ideal for TMS to settle in because you are reminded of it everytime you swallow- it's linked right to your autonomic nervous system. Mine seems to be related to sneezing- somehow that sets the swallowing pain off. It goes away, but sometimes returns. I don't really worry about it. Never forget that you are dealing with a phony malady. It's not real, so doctors will neve know what to make of it. |
