Polly, I have a question for you. I have a very good friend who has been told to have knee replacement surgery. She has terrible pain. I have read what you have been through and I am so sorry. I relayed your story to her but she says that what she has is bone on bone(osteoarthritis) in her knees according to the surgeon reading the xray. I convinced her to call one of the TMS doctors in our area and she spoke to him on the phone. He told her that if it is bone on bone, she does need the surgery. However, he has not seen the xray. The surgeon who has the xray obviously has an interest in doing the surgery.
Could you tell me what your diagnosis was before you had the surgery?
I just have a feeling that she has TMS.
Thanks so much.
Michele

Michelle,
Yup, same deal. Bone on bone. I went t 5 doctors who all told me the only answer was knee replacement. Most of my pain was in the right hip/thigh. They all said it was generating from the bad knees.

When I went to Sarno, I brought him the pre-surgery xrays. He said he would have tried to talk me out of doing it had I come to him before.

I went to lectures and did a tremendous amount of research and reading (except...unfortunately did not find Sarno in time) before the surgery. I had a very good doctor and was operated on in Hospital for Special Surgery. Second best hospital in the country for this (Mayo is #1). And it's a disaster. They don't tell you any of the problems before.

Now they say that it is my hip that needs replacing. Ain't gonna happen. I would never recommend the surgery. I'm so sorry I did it. So sorry. Your friend needs Barnes & Noble and/or a TMS doctor.

Hope this helps.

Polly

Thanks so much, Polly. I never questioned that she needed knee replacement until I read your post. The bone on bone sounded like it would require surgery. I am suggesting she show the xray to the doctor she spoke to on the phone who is listed as a TMS MD on tarpit yoga. Without seeing the xrays, he said bone on bone means surgery.
I also asked her to call another TMS MD in the area. I feel convinced she has TMS since she has other manifestations.
Her pain is deep in the knees not the hip.
Do you think Dr. Sarno would take a look at the xrays? My friend is in Massachusetts. Thanks.

Michele,
Sarno will not work with someone out of the tri-state area. She can call, but I'm pretty sure that's the response she'll get. Your friend has a bad knee. I wish I had mine and knew then what I know now. I would know that my knee would hurt sometimes and would get better. It's when the docs look at the xrays and tell you how it's horrible and you'll be a cripple that you become one. There's a fortune being made with joint replacements.

Any doctor (non-TMS)will look at xrays where there is bone on bone and suggest surgery.

I have talked 2 people out of knee replacements in the last year and both are doing great. I am a poster child for the anti-knee replacements. I know there are a lot of people that had replacements and did well. I think it is one of the most over done surgeries and Dateline and 60 Minutes will eventually have a field day with this issue.

It's like all the other "new" cures and ailments we're living in. 30 yrs. ago, who ever heard of fibromyalgia, epstein barr, chronic fatigue, joint replacement. Today they name it and charge a fortune to treat it.

IMHO
Polly
