What a joke.

I visited the dentist today because of a chipped tooth, and he informed me that my teeth are characteristic of someone who engages in bruxism (tooth grinding and/or clenching), which would explain why I had a chipped tooth despite the fact that I rarely eat hard foods and don't engage in sports.

What a slap in the face. As if it isn't enough that a 21 year old (who is fastidious with dental hygiene, btw) has the TMS manifestations of RSI and IBS, am I now destined to grind my teeth away?

The dentist has recommended some sort of mouth splint, which will cost me approx. $450. I could get it through a healthcare scheme for $200, but I've read some literature which suggests that these things do diddly do daa.

Hey--I'd try an over-the-counter product first and definitely get a second opinion from a dentist you trust not to want to sell you something expensive you can get for less. I got 3 opinions before I purchased an over-the-counter device (for $25). I wear it even though I'm skeptical and wonder if dentists now diagnose bruxism at the drop of a hat. I think it must be very common to grind your teeth. I can see the value in protecting them but not in getting really concerned. Just my 2 cents.
