Does anyone know if COPD is TMS? A friend of mine (and possible TMSer for many other things) has just been dxed with COPD.
Thanks, >|< Penn |

I'm pretty sure COPD isn't TMS. But as many here can vouch - there are many inaccurate diagnosis given out my medical doctors these days just so they can give some name to a problem. |

Some asthma, which is an immune response problem in many cases (overreacting to environmental factors), is probably a TMS equivalent, but many COPD patients (like my mother) have actual disease-produced lung damage as part of the COPD package. My mother has advanced emphesema, chronic bronchitis, and asthma, all packaged as COPD. All due to smoking. Her asthma is not like an asthmatic person who reacts to pollen or such. Her's is due to extensively damaged lungs and such, more like a spasmotic reaction to breathing stress. But since severe asthma is quite life-threatening, it is not the sort of thing you fiddle with by dumping meds. Certainly stress-prone COPD people can work on dealing with stress, rage, etc., and help their condition improve, but not by considering meds a crutch, IMO. |
