Hello,
I am new to the forum and just finished listening to Dr. Sarno's book Healing Back Pain. Everything in his book made sense to me. Over the past few years, I have had head aches that seemed to have left, then I was having problems with my knee that seemed to just keep giving out on me. At the time I was a bit overweight and decided it was time to loose weight. As I began jogging, my knee now had no problems but my bottom of my right foot now began to hurt. I continued to run through the pain and then a pain in my lower left back has basically taken over. The pain has become very unbearable at times and has now been there for over a week.
A listened to his book and it makes sense. I guess my question is how to deal with these emotions as well as the pain in the back. Is there stress in my life, yes. Do I try to please others way before myself..yes. I feel that I am a happy person and well rounded even headed person but I am sure that there are things that I am supressing.
I have been continuing to try to run, swim, and bike. I have a sprint triathalon that I am supposed to take part in this weekend and although the back pain will be there, I still plan to take part in the race.
With me, I just feel as if yes, I found something that makes complete sense to me on how this pain may be caused but how to deal with the pain when I feel as if sometimes it puts me on the floor. After sharp pains, I get up and tell myself it isn't anything physical and it won't control me.
Any other ideas I look forward to reading about.

Just adding on that some pains in my back now, stepping over things, stepping down from things, basically put me on the floor with a pain on my left side and with my left leg. The pain subsides in a few seconds but tightens up my back. I know now that all other pains were an annoyance, head ache, knee, foot problems, but the back is feeling much more. |

Welcome to the forum. You might find this thread of interest, since this member, Dan, had an episode of pain that kept him on the floor for several hours: http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3766
The main thing to do is to start journaling about whatever feelings come up, because the emotions are the source of the pain, no matter where the pain may be located or how it behaves (assuming you've already had testing to rule out physical causes, of course). If you need more information on journaling, you can find a lot of good ideas here by searching on the word "jounaling," and there is some great info on it at this site, by a member named Kelvin: http://www.etex.net/kelving
Hope you're feeling better soon! |
