This guy I know in his mid 50's got back pain and applied for
SSDI. For three years he was on all kinds of heavy duty meds,
could barely walk, his daily life was wrapped around his pain and
going to DRs. but he refused surgery.

Took him a lawyer and 3 years to get his SSD but he finally did.
About a year later now he goes golfing a few times a week, is on
very mild pain meds and is doing so much better.

Now he does have sturctual damage to his lower back like most people do, but it does show how stress can make things worst.

Also our bodies are remarkable things, they really want to heal and its amazing what people can live throught.

It sounds to me like most people here do not plan to ever have surgery, thats my plan anyway, so why even bother having mris done.

I use to frequent the back boards on the health boards but I don't anymore, too scary.

Is anyone on this board thinking about surgery? Just curious.

Once people read of the low success rate of back surgery, they will think twice before pursuing that option.

After my visit w/ Dr. Sarno and his successful treatment, surgery is no longer necessary. I don't need the herniated disc fixed.

I'm so happy!

Sounds like another TMS story! Once he had less rage to repress (no job, got his disability stuff), he had fewer symptoms.

I'm kind of suspicious of people on SSDI who can go golfing -- if you can golf, there must be some kind of work you can do -- but maybe that's just me...

Well I'm glad to hear my taxes are going to a good cause, maybe someday I can get on the dole too and switch my game to golf.

Will the last one working for an honest living please turn-off the lights and let the collapse of socialism begin.

Back surgery is really frightening to me. I knew an older lady (passed on now) who had the ultimate in back surgery gone bad! She had some annoying pain before the surgery, but after the surgery, was never able to walk again on her own and was basically an invalid from there on out. Her husband went down hill quickly too from sadness and depression over this and passed on before she did actually. So, I will pass on back surgery unless it was a life-threatening necessity.
