I'm sure this insight of mine has occurred to many others, but thought I would mention it nevertheless. The example of blushing has often been used to show how the brain can cause actual physical changes in the body. Another example is frequent urination. Ever notice how, when you are nervous, you have to keep going? Where, I often wonder, does all that liquid come from? Even as I write this, I am awaiting the arrival of a person I am interviewing for a job. You would think she would be the nervous one, but her nervousness couldn't compare with mine (yes, I know, a typical TMS personality, low self-image, overly concerned with what others think). I have had to visit the bathroom every few minutes while awaiting her arrival (she was delayed because she ran into Boston Red Sox traffic). In case anyone is tempted to doubt the whole mind-body premise of TMS, don't!

Never thought of blushing that way but you make a good point. It's a thought (embarassment, compliments, etc.) translated into a physical reaction. When I get too nervous over something I usually have to go to the bathroom as well and always conisidered it "just nerves" but haven't thought of it in terms of TMS until you mentioned it.

Thanks
