The September 2014 issue of Neurology has a special article about the use of opioids in the treatment of non-cancer chronic pain. Perhaps it should be “use of opioids in the treatment of TMS”! At any rate you can read the comments on this article at: http://www.neurology.org/content/83/14/1277/reply#neurology_el;63034 The comments which are from physicians for the most part reveal the significant risk of long term opioid use as well as a general ignorance of the source of much of this chronic pain.
