I am posting this for my wife because she too suffers from TMS, being in a high-stress work environment and putting a lot of pressure on herself all the time. Since I have had a lot of success with TMS therapy over the years, I thought your advice might help her out. She hasnt read Dr. Sarno's books but I have told her a lot about TMS.
Aside from her chronic neck pain, which she knows is stress-related, she has had eczema on her leg for many years. She used to use strong steroidal cremes there but had some adverse reactions to them, and since we try to live naturally now, we dont ever use medications anymore. The issue is, she still constantly scratches/rubs/touches/massages the affected areas, and also gives them constant attention by putting coconut oil or other natural gels/cremes there.
She says the oils/cremes help the area improve, but obviously its not really doing much because its been a decade and they are still there. I have told her to not give attention and dont touch them at all, but I dont know if she truly understands TMS and how giving it attention can make it worse or at least "validate" it to keep continuing.
So if you have any advice for her so I can share this post with her as to what you recommend she do to beat this once and for all, and maybe even tips for things to do when she feels the urge to touch or put a creme on it?
Thank you |

Well I had a skin condition known as hydrodenitis. Knew it was coming from my head especially when my doctor cut out the only one I had and a few days later four more appeared!
I treated it with salt baths just to make it shrink a little but then after that I treated it as tms, even told Sarno and he said I was on the right path.
My mom suffers from your wifes condition and gets it when she is around her abusive husband, she also developes rashes on area's she wears my grandmothers old jewelry on.
Based on what I have seen I think this stuff is tms related.
As far as not treating it I can only tell you my mom treated her stuff with rx creams to no avail, I treated my skin issue with salt baths and tms, stopped doing the salt baths. Had flare ups a few times treated them only as tms to not having it in almost three years.
I am not a doctor but you basically answered your own question in the second paragraph it is just a matter of her actually believing tms can go above and beyond pain syndromes. |

Also, try eliminating milk from the diet. |

Hi sdiddy, I had eczema all thru my childhood in the 1950s. Probably my first Tms symptoms. We used a product called mazon. It was very soothing with a memorable smell. I checked the Internet and they are making it again in Canada. I would highly recommend it to treat the symptoms. Treating the source is a different story. |

she still keeps lubricating it with oils and stuff all day and giving it a lot of attention, massaging it, picking at it, scratching constantly. i dont know how to get her to just ignore it for even a week. she doesnt seem to have any willpower to try and ignore it for even a short while and she has had it for 10+ years but insists, like a lot of TMS victims "its getting better". |

I have had psoriasis for the last 15 years. In the beginning it was only on my scalp. In recent years, it had spread to my elbows, knees, and shins. Earlier this year I decided to treat it as TMS, which it clearly is, and stop everything else. I stopped using the steroid creams. I stopped touching it and giving it attention. When I would go to bed I would spend 5 minutes touching other skin on my arms and imagining that I was touching my elbows....really visualizing what they look like clear, what they would feel like. That was in April of the year. Now my elbows are ..oh..95% clear. Same for my knees and shins. My scalp and ears are still troublesome but I am working on it.
If she could stop giving it any attention, even for a short period of time, I think she'd see a great improvement. Hopefully enough of one to make her a believer!
