Just as Sarno writes, that we can predict our pain episodes coming on to certain events or times of day like clockwork, I think this applies to me. Quite a few times over the years, when blow drying my hair, with my head down, my upper back spams have kicked in, as if by merely having my head inverted, this could cause spasms, which is ridiculous. However, it has happened several times. I know now why after reading the books. This morning, I was blow drying my hair and my lumbar gave me a sharp jab, very painful and threatening, as if to say "I'm getting ready to go out on you, just like the upper back does when you are blow drying your hair."
Do you think I sort of set myself up for this mentally, since my lower back never went out before when blow drying, just my upper has done it. What can I do to ward this off? I'm sure it's my mental association getting the best of me but I'm not sure how to deal with this so it doesn't keep happening. Any suggestions?

Believe it or not, this is a good sign.

Your brain knows you are on to its tricks. It realizes you figured out the programmed response of blow drying. So it's trying to trick you by giving you a different programmed response.

These are the times when you just laugh and ignore the pain and go on with your life. It's a confirmation of TMS.

Dave, Thanks
What do you mean here:

Once you learn about TMS and accept that certain physical symptoms have a psychological cause, it is common to experience different symptoms. It's as if your brain is saying: "She figured out that the upper back pain is a trick, so I'm going to try something new." Hence, you got the lower back pain.

Symptoms moving around is a positive sign. We call it "TMS on the run." TMS is a very intelligent process and it takes focus and dedication to stay ahead of it.

Ahhh! I get it now! I like that "TMS on the run". That is a great way to put it. I hope that's what is happening for me. I really do. Cuz after the TMS is on the run, maybe then I'll be on the run again! Literally, I mean running again! Thanks Dave for clarifying.

Don't know if this helps but I have experienced a switching of the pain from the left side of my neck (trapezius muscle) to the right side. It happened last night and it made me smile because I knew it was TMS pulling a new trick on me. I thought "nice try" and forgot about it and this morning it was gone.Tthe left side pain is back though. Sometime I am almost wishing for new pain, just for a change!
