Is there anyone on this board who specifically has what I have, which is debilitating trapezius/scapula/rhomboid trigger points in the back which cause excruciating pain in the neck upon turning, tilting head? I really would love to hear from anyone who may know what I'm talking about. Specifically this area? Thanks!

I've had them in the past. None since I've embraced TMS.

Try not to focus on the specifics of the symptoms. It's counterproductive.

Welcome Maryalma8,

I would reccommend seeing a TMS doctor for another diagnosis.

Good luck.

Yes, pain in the neck is my number 1 symptom and it drives me crazy. Not excruciating but just nagging pain and tension all day long. It is due to a trigger point in my trapezius muscle and related pain in other muscles. Interestingly, I have read that trigger points are thought to be caused by reduced oxygen to the tissues. For me, there is no doubt that it's TMS. I just have not figured out how to get rid of it!

Caroline,
Have you done any TMS work from the book, making the lists, etc. and have you been treated by any TMS doctors? I'm curious as to what it is that is keeping you from finding a way to fend it off?

I am new to this (only started taking the Sarno theory seriously a couple of months ago) so I have a lot of work to do. I have good days and bad days. I am so turned off doctors that I am exploring this alone for now. Reading, posting, journaling, etc. I am beginning to understand that my problems are rooted in my relationship with my mother. For example I believe she had borderline personality disorder (so did my former psychologist) and I discovered in my readings about the disorder that children of BPD mothers tend to develop migraines, anxiety, phobias, aches and pains, etc. as a result of suppressing feelings of fear and rage. So my strategy for now is to explore things I might have repressed as I grew up. I am making progress but I am impatient by nature so of course I want it to be over NOW!

The Traps, shoulder pain that gets exacerbated by twisting and turning the neck is exactly the symptoms I've had. Although Dr. Sarno's books have helped my pain 60-70%, I still have a slight nagging pain in my neck at times. Even though I have made progress and feel better in terms of stopping Chiropractor,Pyhsical Therapy, Pain Management and cutting down seriously on pain meds ,I know I have a long way to go. -Al
