For those of you who have successfully conquered TMS, how do you nip it in the bud when you start to feel it creeping back? My last major occurrence of TMS (nerve pain in my foot) was last summer. Greatly helped by The Great Pain Deception. Had a really good winter and spring so far. But classically, just finished off a busy spring with lots of successes in my life and still busy but starting a new endeavor which is mostly positive but also anxiety ans stress producing. It's been a very stressful week in general (pressures at work, etc.) and my foot pain is creeping back. Of course, now my anxiety about the foot is starting to go through the roof.
Guess I'm just looking for some positive words and strategies to not let this get out of hand... |

I'm in the same boat and it's definitely a battle... Personal and work life are both chaotic and next thing I know - bang - ankle pain - is it arthritis from an old surgery or TMS - I'm only 42 so I know TMS is the culprit, but once it creeps under the "door" it can be an uphill battle to kick back out... But I'm determined to stay strong. I have to use this ankle to walk around for another 40 years or so... You have to live life on your terms (easier said then done). Good luck |

Thank you for your response. One of these days I'm going to finally get it that beating TMS is a process. For those of us with the TMS personality it can rear it's ugly head when we least expect it. Need to find a way to keep up the work as maintenance without dwelling on it either, I guess. |

Sarah: I've had similar experiences with back, knee and groin pain. I have found that being alert to new/returning pain pays off. For one thing the stress that is causing it is recent so you can pinpoint the undlying problem. Two weeks ago I had a bout of groin pain (right after I finished my tax return). Guess what the cause was? I just keep telling myself that there's nothing wrong with me and that I'm finished with my annual tax ordeal. I recommend looking at Robert Smith's EFT videos. |

You already beat TMS so don't worry.
You realize what it is, you realize you're having anxiety about it, you realize it's fake, a hoax, a ghost, a fraud.
Yes it may give you trouble for a few days, maybe even weeks. But if you realize all the things you KNOW to be true, it shouldn't have any power...unless you give it power.
The CHOICE is yours. TMS has the power YOU give it. Especially when you know what it is and how it works.
Live your life and don't let it suck you in.

Sounds like you've got this pretty much figured out. According to the Rahe-Holmes list of life stressing situations, seemingly "good" life changing situations can also trigger TMS pain--any situation that changes one's homeostasis--comfort zone--can create TMS pain creating tension.
You can try doing what worked before, crack open a TMS book for a "TMS KNOWLEDGE PENICILLIN BOOSTER". You may want to try Nicole Sachs's new TMS book, "THE MEANING OF TRUTH" for another healer's perspective: http://meaningoftruthbook.com/a-review-by-my-mother/

Thanks for the responses. It's true! I have beat TMS! But when you're in the throes of a relapse it's so easy to forget that.
I'm feeling much better today. I think my best strategy has been to try to ignore the physical pain as much as possible, remind myself of the emotional issues that are causing the pain and then try to get into a calm space.
That book looks very good. Also thinking of creating my own little booklet for myself of my favorite affirmations.
