Being helpless and unable to support someone who needs help, a tremendous conflict is building up, creating lot of guilt, feeling bad for not supporting.
This situation has manifested as IBS Constipation for the last few weeks, something which I never had for several months. I know it is TMS, but this time, it is pretty strong and adamant due to the severity of the emotional trauma, resulting in very poor bowel movement.
Now I'm beginning to try EFT tapping with phrases for bowel movement. I'm trying it for the last 1 week, however the bowel movement is still very bad.
Can someone say how do we know the EFT tapping is working? Are there any known mistakes we make while practicing EFT, making it ineffective?

Racer, I haven't tried EFT so I wouldn't know. But, I just read Dr. James Alexander's book "The Hidden Psychology of Pain" and he talks a lot about EFT, among other things. He is also a member on this forum and posts regularly. You may want to ask for his input. |

tmsjptc,
I was in touch with Dr. James a while ago, and he knows my case. Interestingly I manage my core issue of pelvic pain due to TMS with lot of success.
I never/rarely experienced IBS constipation like this in the past. I normally clear my bowel every day. As I mentioned, it is very adamant this time due to my current emotional battle, my bowel is refusing to start its movement.

Racer, I'm using eft a lot right now but really am a newbie. Have you explored this link:
http://www.eftuniverse.com/
There's a search facility. I searched ibs for you and it returned this:
http://www.eftuniverse.com/index.php?option=com_acesearch&view=search&query=ibs&Itemid=3649
There's so much information on the site and it's worth reading through. I know Robert Smith created a youtube video on why eft doesn't work sometimes and how to remedy that. I can't immediately find it but when I do I'll post the link. (how much do we miss Shawn?).
plum, Thanks for sharing the links. I can feel lot of emotions stuck in the bowel, finding hard to liberate myself.
While reiterating the phrases, I'm telling silently to myself while tapping, and not telling it out loud as given in some instructions. Is this a mistake I'm doing, make it ineffective?
Yes plum, we are missing Shawn, Dr. James, TT and Ace.
Shawn, Dr. James, TT, Ace, If you see this post, can you share your thoughts as well?

I found the video I mentioned. Shawn sent it to me so vicariously he helped!

Not sure about vocalisation. I tend to say the phrases aloud but sometimes circumstances prevent that. I'm not sure what the form is or if it really matters. Robert Smith suggests not and he discusses mental tapping in this video too.
Maybe you need to tap more specifically on the emotions rather than the physical issues. Or try epsom salts. |

Don't know much about tapping, had a teacher in Yoga years ago have us do some in class, didn't get it then and still don't, but admittedly don't know anything about it--I do like Dr. Alexander's TMS thinking though and I believe he is a proponent of EFT.
I suspect it's a way of turning one's focus to whatever one wants to focus on, kinda' like the teacher in class whacking you on the hand to get your attention--but less invasive. Maybe a device to turn the focus away from the TMS distraction symptom and onto the underlying repressed emotional anger issues.
As far as the constipation: DRINK COFFEE!
Your guilt about being helpless to support someone, is a TMS personality "GOODIST" trait, explore that area.
G'luck, tt

Racer- just read your post. I think the first thing to do is to eliminate (excuse the pun) any sinister possibilities with a thorough medical check up of your bowel etc, if you havent done so already. It may very well be TMS, but you want to be confident that it isnt more serious. The next option would be to consume foods which are likely to help (and coffee, if thats your thing)- fruits, fibres, etc. Clearly, we are physical and psychological beings, all rolled up in the one package, so ensure that you are doing the right physical things. Then, in regards to EFT- as someone else mentioned, if tapping with phrases relating to the symptoms doesnt work, then tap on what you figure could be the emotions behind the symptoms. I havent looked at the videos mentioned by others here, but i think they would be worth looking at- esp the one about what to do if the basic procedure isnt working yet. If physical causes have been excluded, then continue to think psychologically about the symptoms. There is a notion around that our body is our unconscious mind, and sometimes it makes sense to think in terms of our body (unconscious) talking to us with physical symptoms. What are your symptoms telling you, and what do you need to do about it? Good luck.

Dr. James,
I have done 3 endoscopic and 1 colonoscopy procedures in the past, they came out perfectly clean and normal. I know there is nothing wrong with my stomach, and strongly believe the TMS, anxiety, and various emotions I "swallow & accumulate" every day that I keep in my stomach causing these problems.
Interestingly, after trying EFT for a week, I can see my bowel movement is back to normal for the last couple of days.
1. Can we not see immediate relief in EFT for some people, may be it took a week for it to work for me? 2. While trying EFT, despite suffering from constipation, I was getting very good sleep without valiums. Is this due to the EFT effect?

Racer- glad to hear things are getting back to normal. Yes, I have seen some people get fairly instant results with EFT, and other people have had to persist with it. I also find that EFT works well regarding sleep. Seeings you've had all the medical checks, it would certainly appear to be TMS and you are on the right track with your approach.
