Well, now I know that the mind is so powerful that it can cause pains and disorders just based off negative thinking.

I was wondering if there was any studies or literature on the other side of the spectrum. As far as positive thoughts causing favorable results in our bodies. I have heard that as far as excercise goes, if you really believe what you are doing is working then you will get better results, but I'm pretty sure this is just the placebo effect.

Does anybody have any info on this subject or know of any good books?

I like the book "Positivity" by Fredrickson.

A couple of days ago I read about an extensive study that suggests positive people don't live as long as those with a more negative outlook. One possibility is that pessimists take better care of themselves because they don't expect good luck to save them.

Personally, I found it a bit depressing that because I'm having a lousy time, I'll probably live longer than if I cheer up

I didn't bookmark the study but will try to find it again

Okay, that was easy. I googled Pessimists Live Longer which brought up tons of stuff at: [urlhttp://www.google.ca/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=pessimists+live+longer&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&ei=4Md9UeX2IIqmiQKkwYH4CQ][/url]

The one I read was probably the Huffington Post article.

Have you read Andrew Weil's Spontaneous Healing? I would say that the main point of his book is that if you find something you can believe in, your mind WILL help you get better. He's got lots and lots of convincing anecdotal examples.

Also, what's wrong with placebos?

If I recall correctly, I read something in Sarno's book that said that the placebo effect usually is only temporary.
