At 5:30 AM your doorbell rings. It is your neighbour from downstairs. "I am.... so sorry... but I am a bit drunk ... can you open.. my door?". You 'forgive and let go easily' and decide to enjoy yourself by watching from a distance how it takes him 10 minutes just to enter his open door. You wonder how he even made it to his home when he falls down twice trying to pick his cap from the floor...

A delightful outing for the day with long-time friends. Enjoying the "spoils of the day" in the evening at home.

The glass top of a propagator that is covered in tiny droplets, inside are seeds waiting to germinate. When you tap it some droplets start forming bigger ones and drop down and are absorbed by the soil.

Remembering how, at this time last year, you sowed handfuls of sunflower seeds and in defiance of your expectation, most took and come early summer your flat was festooned with happy, happy flowers and you muse on repeating this...

thanx for this reminder plum, I have ordered the breed 'giganteus' that should reach 2-3 meters...
Reminds me of my sometimes confused neighbour last year. He said he had planted sunflower seeds as he does every year and indeed, they came up really strong. When I looked closer I was confused and asked him what he had planted exactly.. did the seeds look like corn by any chance??

More memories stirred...
You are in the garden of the finest gardener you have ever known and they invite you to pluck a seed from the centre of the most majestic sunflower. And you do and it tastes delicious, not the least because you are young and surprised by the earth's bounty.
Ah, is this not happiness.
Many years later and you are living on the edge of a farm. One late August day, you stand in your bedroom window watching the yellow corn dance with the wind and you laugh and cry at the beauty and wish you could hold it to your heart forever. Some years later the field is once more awash with gold. This season it is rapeseed and while the dance is less hypnotising, the yellow yellow yellow prettiness makes your heart skip a beat.
Ah, is this not happiness.

Don't get me started on farms...
I and my sister used to visit a local farmer when I was young.
- witnessing a calf being born - drinking warm milk fresh from the cow - shooting an air gun - riding a tractor - picking bails of grass from the field - playing, swinging and building hiding places in the hay barn - coming home all itchy from the hay - holding yellow squeeking chicks in your hand - collecting the eggs from the hen house - ....
great times.

warm inspiration from 2 shining lights about spring plantings. OK so I AM going to sprinkle those packets of wildflower seeds I've had in the freezer for years!

Reminds me to get the poppy seed I collected last year out of the freezer.
watching your big toe poke through a hole in your left sock. I don't know why, but it makes me smile... maybe because I just don't care now, normally I would throw this sock away or sow it shut. For a moment I seriously consider drawing a smiley face on my toe

Buying the crude materials for your own 'square foot garden', which was a challenge on its own, and looking forward to saw and screw it together tomorrow.

So cute. Reminds me that I must soon face the winter carnage on my balcony. Talk of wild seeds plants wild ideas...

I didn't see a honeybee yet, but just discovered a dead wasp in my toolbox. I hate those basterds! Small childhood trauma.

WOW! I didn't know they had smaller ones for the balcony, gigalos! thanks for mentioning that.
My Dad created a square foot garden (including corn!) in his backyard which I remember very fondly. |

Go for it RSR, find or buy some wood, nail it together and start growing your own crop.
You and the colleague sitting opposite to you being unable to stop laughing about silly remarks and sounds you both produce. I think it is because everybody is just in a good mood after the first weekend of beautiful weather this year.
