to feel her joy in words
to have the same experience while reading it.

Soothing yourself with a 'health cookie'. (I had a laugh about the name with the baker, she admitted I shouldn't take it too literally)

ah, is this not happiness..

Snowbound. Series two of BBC's Sherlock*. A handsome chilli con carne bubbles on the stove. A fine bottle of red goes down nicely.

Ah, is this not happiness.

* as someone who doesn't even watch tele, I'm delighted to say I would pay the license fee for this alone. World class, and Benedict Cumberbatch is THE thinking womans crumpet. Magnificent.

Well plum, I actually had wondered whether it might have been a fondant mouse (in which case a VERY fancy kind of muffin) or whether gigalos actually meant mousse... And I also admit to wondering whether they were a chocolate chip kind of muffin or whether it was chocolate throughout !!

Nonetheless I was VERY touched by that spotlighted moment, because I often make little food gifts for friends and family and I never really know how /if they are ultimately unwrapped, and I would be delighted if they created a moment of such happiness and enjoyment for the recipients later (and whomever else they might be shared with.) So gigalos, your post was very heartening to me ...

(plum, your snowbound time sounds just lovely.)

Going out for a nice teatime with a friend this afternoon.

ah, is this not part of a gentle happiness too.

Solving a crime..

ah, is this not happiness..

lol, mousse, not mouse I can already see you fantasizing about what that muffin could have looked like and it makes me smile.Btw, chocolate throughout... mjam..

Luckily the only mouse in my house is dead and drying out somewhere behind the wall, from having eaten too many pink seeds from my cupboard.

When I was little I used to love scampering off to the local sweet shop with 10p clutched in my hand to spend on the penny counter. I always chose a chocolate mouse. Love the reminder of this, even if it was a mousse not a mouse. A least it wasn't a moose. That would be too weird.

For me it was either the plastic ice cone with a gumball at the bottom or a pack of strawberry bubble gum that made my jaw hurt after a day of chewing.

sweet shops..

Being reminded of yet another sweet from childhood...were they called screwballs or jawbreakers..? Remembering that your favourites were 'flying saucers', pastel-coloured rice paper shaped like ufo's packed full of sherbert, and remembering the way you held them in your mouth till they went all soft and fizzy.

Ah, is this not happiness.

simple but o so tasty.. a recipe from a novice cook

Bake 1 chickenbreast (slice after cooking, not before) together with 1 crudely chopped sweet red pepper, a handful of pine nuts, and a finely chopped clove of garlic. Cook pasta of your choice, add olive oil, add the all the rest and mix stur it with 2 large spoons of green pesto. Enjoy the mix of sweet pepper and salty pesto..

being amazed by the taste of simple food

plum: a 'sugar straw" for me ! (not sure if that is their correct name even... SO long ago!)

gigalos: YUM.

Chicken pot pie planned for dinner! true comfort food!

ah, will that not be a little bit of happiness to soothe a trying day.

Think I remember those sugar straws...no idea of their name though. Loving this sifting through memory lane.

Old-fashioned sweetshops with shelves laden with large jars that contained bonbons and coconut mushrooms and cherry lips and chewy chocolate nuts, and you bought them by the quarter pound, weighed out by the storekeeper and slipped into a small paper bag. Perfect for sharing with friends after school.

translated from dutch, so some may sound weird :)

sugarcoated banana sweets, gum that popped in your mouth, kojak lollies, cinnamon bars, wine balls the size of a tennis ball, chocolate cigarettes, spice nuts....

being able to taste and smell food with your mind

ah, is this not happiness..

to think and feel that emotion
to have control over that thought
to never have lost hope again
and to learn to come back to the spirit
of achievement and desire we were born with.

Ah, is this not happiness.
