A bit scared and woozy from the lightening-hit of hearing him say 'I love you' for the first time.

Lying in your bed, smiling, because that evening you helped your dear old mother get totally rid of her painful stiff neck that she developed from the stress of sitting more than an hour in the dentist chair, by giving her a 5 minute massage
(i know, not the TMS way, she was very happy though )

Ah, is this not happiness

It's 5:30 in the morning and you are slightly irritated by a bloody bird that's keeping you awake. You stick your head out of the roof window, see the most beautiful sunset and there is a blackbird 2 meters away from you sitting on the rooftop singing his guts out; suddenly it sounds like the most beautiful thing you ever heard.

Settling into the cosy corner of a friends retro cafe as she lifts a freshly-baked sponge cake from the oven. All warm, moist and melty with buttercream, she places it on the table with a smile as her adorable kids scamper about all chocolate and giggles.

VERY hungry .... and arriving at my favourite breakfast place, where they know what kind of tea I like, how many milks in it... nice ANTICIPATION.. AND then the breakfast-maker (who I didn't even see today) had obviously seen ME and kindly put in the ketchupI usually ask for!

AAAAAAaaaaaahhhhhhh is this not happiness?

I forgot to mention: great initiative

Reading your last post and realize that you should have written 'sunrise' instead of 'sunset'. Your perfectionistic mind isn't as bothered as it normally would though. People get the point anyway.

Realising that your heart and hopes and dreams can be delicately smashed to pieces, and rejoicing because it means you can love again.

Sleeping like a child, waking to golden sun sliding easily along the walls of your bedroom. Knowing the gods themselves wept all night and you heard nothing.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Deciding that today you will start running. On the way to the park two Jehovahs Witnesses assail you:

"Do you believe in God?"
"No. I'm a Satanist."

The expression on their faces. Priceless.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Uneasy yet determined, starting to run and juggling the realisation that you need a better sports bra with the uncomfortable fact you are running in a way to 'protect' your achilles, and thinking to hell with both.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Home again.
Hurty and muddy (the gods wept, remember?),
I am Bambi.

A hot bath awaits.
I am Ophelia.

I am myself because you gave me seven passionate days of unconditional love.
I am shining.

Ah, is this not happiness.

Still technically winter here. But yesterday ... an unmistakable spring-like day ... the welcoming sun, warming the air, brightening every glance out the window, refreshing and relieving to be out and about.

Ah, is this not happiness !!

LIstening to "Learning to fly" by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and you find yourself playing the air drums.

Listening to 'I won't back down' by the same Tom Petty and you have to lay down your air drum sticks for a moment because the lyrics feel so striking. You decide to add both songs to your all time favourites.

Chickenbone, you don't need to be creative. Just try to describe that short moment of 'happiness' (amazement, bring back good memories, unexpected turn of event, contemplation, sudden insight etc. etc) that once and a while visits you. It could be the smell of your favourite dish, it could be seeing an ant trying to move a piece of sand, it could be as simple as enjoying a ray of sun cast in your living room or looking at a picture of someone you care for.

I bet you come up with something one of these days...
