Dr Sarno, the father of modern tms. My old surgeon thought Sarno is belonging in an asylum. The Beatles went on hundred of audition and often heard: "guitar groups are on the way out" and "the Beatles have no future in show business."
Here’s eleven famous writers who were rejected and show that writers might just be right after all… Madeline L’Engle’s book, A Wrinkle in Time, was turned down 29 times before she found a publisher. C.S. Lewis received over 800 rejections before he sold a single piece of writing. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was rejected 121 times. Johathan Livingston Seagull was rejected 40 times. Louis L’Amour was rejected over 200 times before he sold any of his writing. The San Francisco Examiner turned down Rudyard Kipling’s submission in 1889 with the note, “I am sorry, Mr. Kipling, but you just do not know how to use the English language.” An editor once told F. Scott Fitzgerald, “You’d have a decent book if you’d get rid of that Gatsby Character.” The Dr. Seuss book, And to Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street, was rejected for being “too different from other juveniles on the market to warrant selling.” George Orwell’s Animal Farm was rejected with the comment, “It’s impossible to sell animal stories in the USA.” The manuscript for The Diary of Anne Frank received the editorial comment, “This girl doesn’t, it seems to me, have a special perception or feeling which would lift that book above the curiosity level.”
Chicken Soup for the Soul by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen. Within a month of submitting the first manuscript to publishing houses, the creative team behind this multimillion dollar series got turned down 33 consecutive times. Publishers claimed that "anthologies don't sell" and the book was "too positive." Total number of rejections? 140. Then, in 1993, the president of Health Communications took a chance on the collection of poems, stories, and tidbits of encouragement. Today, the 65-title series has sold more than 80 million copies in 37 languages.
Carrie by Stephen King. If it hadn't been for Stephen King's wife, Tabitha, the iconic image of a young girl in a prom dress covered in pig's blood would not exist. King received 30 rejections for his story of a tormented girl with telekinetic powers, and then he threw it in the trash. Tabitha fished it out. King sent his story around again and, eventually, Carrie was published. The novel became a classic in the horror genre and has enjoyed film and TV adaptations as well. Sometimes all it takes is a little encouragement from someone who believes in you.
You have to have thick skin to be a writer. Being offended every time you heard someone giving a "review" or criticize your work is not healthy for you or that person or anyone else involve. Try to take it as a constructive criticism and improve on your work. Make your second edition better. There is always room for improvement. Even Dr Sarno make changes to his theory over the years. Read about the part why he want to change the name tms.
Even if their review is wrong, so what, who care. The more defensive you got, the more people start to wonder. Why is this professional therapist is so easily being offended? Why is he/she so sensitive to every thing anyone said about her book?
Personally I don't think is a good way to respond to criticism. And TT's responds I really think do more harm than good for Nichol. It would be much better if TT would just say that: hey! we have different review here, I think it is wonderful and people should read it, instead of criticising the reviewer.
Just my thought, I hope I offended no one.

No offense Balto, you're a real nice guy and all but I think you're a little late to this party. This has nothing or very little to do with Nichole or her book. This is Shawn's mean little way of getting back at me for something in another thread. I don't go ****ting all over Shawn's threads, he already made his view clear of Nicole's book, he didn't need to repeat it here. I don't go messing with Shawn's Ace thread.
Shawn's comments had nothing to do with constructive criticism, what if I said to you Balto: "Your threads here are a big flop", how would you feel?--what's constructive about that? I'm not offended by your remarks to me, but I don't think you are being objective about this laying it all on me and not seeing Shawns's provocative remarks--but that's OK, I'm used to being the bad guy here. |

"PPS. Albert Einstein also said, 'We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.' " page xvi
NO HE DIDN'T SAY THIS. This is one of those fake Einstein quotes with no attribution. It's actually a good quote, but not on record anywhere as having been said by him. This is very common btw. There are whole websites about false quotes. Wikipedia or Wikiquote has the nearest thing he said, which is not really anything like it, not even in spirit.

TT, I never said his post is constructive. "I've said: Try to take it as a constructive criticism".
If you look at the review of all the things that is forsale on Amazon or any other sites, you will see that all of them will have 1 and 2 stars reviews.
Vincent Van Gogh didn't sell any painting when he was alive. I personally think my daughter paint better than picasso. I also think Shakespeare writting is terrible... No matter what you produced, there will be critics, there will be negative reviews... you have to accept that fact and move on. The good doctor were criticized by million, do you think he should get on all these forums and defending himself and his book? He know his book, his message, and the result speak for itself.
If I were a writter, every time someone said something negative about my book on this forum, I think I would privately email that person and thank him for his input. I would ask him to be more detail about his review and ask him what he changes I should make to my book to improve it. I would write down all those details from all the reviewers and start working on my second, third, fourth... edition of my book.
I think it is useless trying to defend or reply to all these negative opinion/reviews. By doing that, the writter only make the critics's voices louder.
I don't want to take side. This is just my opinion.

Hi Wavy, was wondering how you were doing, haven't seen you around here for a while. Well, you have to admit it's a really good quote and quite applicable to TMS'ing whoever the einstein was who came up with it.. If it's up for grabs I'll take credit for it then, along with my other great thought: "Thinking out of the box", I better contact my copyright attorney.
Cheers, tt/lsmft

Hi Tom,
Oh I've been around. Things are great and there is no such thing as a Claire Weekes forum, though I'd certainly frequent if there was, considering she was leading the way long before Sarno became popular.
I see you are still attacking everyone, pushing your agenda, making people angry and taking shots at respected, loved members like Balto. All in your attempt to defend a book-pusher who's done little or nothing around here.
Balto has spent countless hours trying (and succeeding) to help people heal around here. He's as kind of a human being as I've seen on a message board. But, you're ready to throw him under the bus because of an infatuation with a one-"hit" book wonder who's book has frankly been poorly received around here for the most part.
I wonder how far you'll go to get your way? How long before it's just you around here, and no one else?
Or, maybe that's the goal.
Anyway, all is well. Thanks for asking and keep up that fight! Clearly, it's paying off.

Hi Bry,
Since there is no Claire Weekes Forum, and since you are such a devotee of hers and derisive of Dr. Sarno, why don't YOU start one. It would be a great distraction for you from your TMS and give you some idea of what it's like to create something rather then tearing things down.
There are other TMS message boards and if you dislike seeing my posts here maybe explore another one.
As far as my "agenda" as you like to phrase it, and my contribution to spreading the word of TMS as Dr. Sarno wrote it, I suggest you start by reading my 3,328 posts, they may clarify the subject for you.
Cheers

Oh Tom, you know I'm a fan of Sarno. Let's not skew the issues here. I just hate to see you attacking yet another valuable member of the forum, particularly someone who has gone to such great lengths to help people. But, that seems to be what you do. No one has driven more people off the board than yourself. I was told that a long time ago and now I understand why.
That's great news about your post-count. You never miss an opportunity to celebrate yourself, do you? You can remind people of that when you're the only one left here and Dave just gives you the keys. You can call it "TomIsRight.com"
Anyway, I'd better check out before you resort to racial slurs again.
Cheers.

Bryan, I see you're all rested up from our last go round. Hey, I'm semi-retired and can keep this up 'til I'm bored with you. You're from the school of speech-writing where if you tell a lie big enough and often enough people start believing it--YOU ARE A LIAR! Keep it up.
I would think out of deference to your daughter and wife you would quit wasting energy battling some old fart on a message board you've never met--shear folly. But, if that's how little you value your time, that's your business--not to mention a good distraction from having to work on your real TMS/Claire Weekes issues.
Cheers

It fills my heart to know that my personal courage is helping people. Thank you thank you, Eric and Tom and everyone else keeping it alive on this forum. I've been so immersed in raising my kids lately that I haven't checked in here enough. I'm really going to try and show up in the next week or so, and give advice wherever I see an opening.
I've received so many calls and emails from folks who've read the book, and are healing in a new fashion. I'm starting to feel the confidence that, just maybe, my vulnerability will give others the permission to be vulnerable too... a true gift.
Much love,
Nicole
