Please read the following, as it will change your life if you struggle with TMS. I wrote this book for every YOU out there, but ESPECIALLY for everyone here. You are my people. Please feel free to be in touch via my website, www . meaningoftruthbook . com. I can't promise to respond to every post, but I will read them all. I am passionate about my work, and helping people.
More about me:
Whatever you are feeling, I get it. I do, because I was once you.
My name is Nicole J. Sachs, LCSW. I'm a Clinical Psychotherapist AND was a Sarno patient years ago, in my early 30's. I spoke for years on Sarno's Alumni Panel at NYU (I see myself referenced in many of these old posts, which makes me smile.) After years of working with many Sarno patients and many more of my own, I've written my first book on the topic which I am CERTAIN will help you. You, and every YOU out there. I wrote this book for you.
I hope that you are inspired to stay on this path. The power of this science is mind-blowing, to me at least. It saved and changed my life long ago, and still does every day.
OK! Enough preaching :) The easiest way to learn more: www . meaningoftruthbook . com
Currently, my book is available on AMAZON.com and LuLu.com, but will soon be available for B&N Nook, and selling independently on iTunes and iBooks (although LuLu's format works amazingly on iPads.) If you're not a computer/tablet person, the hardcover should be out in a couple weeks. All news will be posted to my site, so keep checking back.
I wish you all well, and I hope this helps you. If you are dedicated enough to be here, it certainly will.
All the best,
Nicole

Hi we appreciate your input and we need a lot of people like you to help, but one of te rules of this forum is not to sell books. Through your help you can mention you wrote a book in passing and if someone is interested they can search for it. Most of us on this site who are in the Heath care field help people here for free. I am not trying to say your intentions are not good, and you just may have not been aware, but the moderator of this forum may remove your post for that reason. Glad to have you on the forum |

Welcome to the TMSHelp Forum, Nicole! I wouldn't worry about that rule too much, rules were made to be broken! It's probably some boiler plate by some long gone webmaster (the gremlin in disguise trying to prevent the TMS "KNOWLEDGE PENICILLIN" from flourishing. If TMS books can't be discussed and pushed here then what's the purpose of this place?! We almost lost another great TMS author, SteveO on that technicality--his book is now in the Forum's bibliography and he is an active and greatly appreciated contributor here as I hope you will become. I'm glad we're getting an infusion of new oxygenated blood here--whew, look at my post count, I need a break (no smirking from the peanut gallery). Dave the Mod here is like the Wizard of Oz leaving us to our own devices--in other words, the inmates run this asylum. No sweat Nicole, if you get busted I'll take the fall, I play tennis with a really big defense attorney as well as a bailbondsman. TMS'ers worry too much about details.
Welcome,
tt

Is your book really about TMS and Sarno? The brief excerpt you have sounds more like CBT. Also 5 perfect reviews in 2 days on Amazon (from reviewers that have no other reviews but the one for your book) is a little err. odd... |

HI there! Wow, thank you for all of the responses to my post. First off, I am completely legit and YES, my book is about TMS. It is the true story of MY TMS and the ways in which my practice has grown since my work with Dr. Sarno. It is the story I used to tell on the NYU Panel to countless Sarno patients for years.
The reason my reviews are so powerful, is that I am a busy psychotherapist and I shared my book as a pre-publishing event to my clients. Their sentiments are those you have read. My hope is that non-clients will appreciate the book as well. Trust me, I struggled like you have NO IDEA being so vulnerable and honest in the telling of this story, and my heart and soul are dedicated to helping people find their truths and heal in ways both physical AND emotional.
Best of luck to you!
Nicole

How many TMS books do I have to read? I have read too many now, all promising that the reader will be cured as a result of reading their book. I could now write one myself as I have read so much on the topic. But all this information, which is overwhelming, is not helping with the symptom elimination. There comes a time when enough is enough with all the information that is available and we now need concrete steps for recovery. If I have to read yet another TMS book I am going to pull my hair out with madness! |

I agree, Shawn, and I don't really like the aggressive posture. I think I will not be buying any more TMS books either. |

shawnsmith, I can understand your position. Knowledge is the one thing, getting better (or not getting better) the other thing.
But - never the less - the more the TMS-knowledge is spread all over the world and the more people who have healed share their knowledge with the world the better it is!
Kind regards from Germany sends Birdie |

I agree birdie, but if she is trying to help, why not come on this board and help, like James and steveO, but without pushing the agenda of selling the book. It is fine to mention it in passing or when relavant (Like Steve and James), if someone likes what they are hearing and wants to search more, then fine, they can go on to get the book. I think if Dr. Sarno agrees with the book also, he would clearly endorsed it like he did for Marc Sopher, with a foreward. An endorsement doen not make it more or less correct, but if the premise is that I understand so and so bc I healed bc of Dr. Sarno and his methods, then I would like to see his endorsement. Im busy and have young children and am a doctor, but yet I have spare time that I use on here to help others. If I ever write a book, I may mention it on here in case someone is interested in details, but would never hold back "secrets" so people can buy my book. I have clearly listed my keys to healing, with everything I think a person may need to know to get better and what I have seen the people I have helped use to get better. The whole post was about selling the book, not coming on here and helping INDEPENDENT of the book. Shawn, no more pulling hair, your affirming negatively. I know its a figure of speech, but somehow, just the repeated use of negative words revvs our minds up. |

Yes, you are correct Ace1. In part 24 of your keys to healing you write, "Try to think of the big picture when applying these techniques and when trying to achieve relaxation. Most people with symptoms are too detail oriented and are intense in that regard. They also try to apply this detail orientation and intensity to their symptoms and to trying to get rid of them. Part of your cure is to stop thinking in this manner and to now be more laid back and think of the big picture."
I interpret your words as addressing those people who need mountains of information before they can be on the road to recovery. They read one book and article after another (detail oriented) and become obsessed with all of the details for fear they miss a single point which may potentially impede their progress. You rightly advise people to cease thinking in this manner and instead look at the big picture. |

Ace1 and Shawn are right, OCD or its equivalent are definitely an obstacle to making progress, and this has been a big part of my problem I feel. |

Hello Ace1,
There is nothing I can say or do on this site to convince people I am here to help, until they are simply convinced through process. Having said this, the reason I didn't come on and simply help is that each ONE OF US is actually the same (this one will take a bit of getting used to, but I know it to be true,) and all of our TMS is connected to the same dilemma - difficulty in excavating our truths. I am wildly busy with my 5 kids and a full-time practice, or I assure you that you'd have seen me here a many times simply to help, and far sooner.
I wrote the book to speak to as many people as possible. My book is not the average TMS book, nor is it exclusively a TMS book. Yet, it is a book that will certainly change your life, if you let it. If you are in pain, there is a reason. As Dr. Sarno always says, "If you are still in pain, you simply have more work to do." Ace1, don't waste your hard-fought energy being skeptical. It's just another diversion, trust me. Dr. Sarno did not write a preface to my book because I didn't ask him to. He's in his late 80's, very tired, and not wanting to work any more. I respect that.
I understand the world, intellectually, but sometimes my heart has trouble following. I know that it is human nature to assume I am "pushing" a book to get money, but it breaks my heart. When you read my book, you will understand why.
Go to my site, send me your email through the contact page identifying yourself, and I will send you a PDF of the book for free. You can read it on either a computer or an iPad in that format. In fact, whomever reads this, do the same. You can have one.
Then maybe people will get what I'm saying, and what I'm trying to do.
With gratitude,
-n.

OK--Nicole, may I welcome you once again to the forum. I think you are witnessing some typical TMS fear of anything unsettling the normal HOMEOSTASIS of the TMS "HELP" Forum. SteveO was run off the forum for daring to mention his TMS book--on a TMS forum no less! I personally called him and cajoled him to come back after he was hurt, offended and pissed-off by the same treatment you are receiving--so don't feel you've been personally picked out for this reception. Objecting to a fellow TMS'er who's written a book and has the temerity to mention it here IS crazy!
SteveO has proven to be a great contributor here and I'm looking forward to hearing your TMS story (and buying your book). We all have a book within us and how we deal with our TMS--human condition--journey is likely at the heart of it, allowing us to let it out. I know SteveO is not making any money off his book--but I hope he strikes it rich someday, he certainly deserves it after all he's been through.
I don't think anyone writes a TMS book to enrich their pocketbooks--there must be an easier ways to make money--like selling time shares at Cabo. The Good Doctor has written four TMS books and just recently retired at ninety. Gee, what would happen if he posted here and mentioned, "I've recently written a book called, "HEALING BACK PAIN'."
Welcome aboard Nicole, tt |

many thanks tom! i appreciate your kind words, and really can't wait to hear what you think of my book. it is only a few days old (my latest baby ;) and other than my clients, not many have had the chance to read it. people in the world will "get it," hopefully, but NO ONE will get it like people suffering from TMS and familiar with Dr. S. He is very dear to me, as a person and a mentor, and i will fight vehemently to make sure that the hope and new lease on life he handed to me (all those years ago) does not go unappreciated.
take care! xo, n.

That's a fine opinion, Tom... and others of us are entitled to believe that the nature of this forum is for people to organically share this information between ourselves without being subject to "experts" peddling their goods. (Several of us have suggested a separate "buy my stuff" forum to ease this concern.)
I have no problem with people making a living. I do feel like the authenticity of any forum of this nature becomes very compromised when salespeople begin to seep in peddling their wares. The problem becomes, where does it stop? At what point do the "buy my stuff" threads take over, and are visitors confused and put off by what appears to be some kind of chronic pain marketplace? Where do we draw the line? Seems to me that your view is that as long as you approve of the peddler, it's okay. Other people should have to play by your rules. I'm just telling you as a long time user of public forums of all types going back to the early 90s, this stuff usually snowballs and the end result isn't good.
I spend less time here and have privately spoken to many who feel the same but are afraid to be attacked by the TMS mob for mentioning such a concern here. (So they just stay away.)
So, how about we step back and recognize that your opinion is yours... and may not be shared by many others, despite your attempt to rally them to speak up to support your opinion?
As for SteveO, I'm glad he's helped you. He certainly seems to go out of his way to help people and that's honorable. However, he did come in heavy and hard with his book-sell, and also is quick to dismiss opinions of those who have had success with other methods he doesn't himself sell in his book. So, that's his right... but it's also the others to disagree. But, see... he's written a book (despite not being a doctor, scientist or medically trained) so what happens is that over time, the logic seems to be that questioning him is off-limits. After all, he wrote a book, right? We can't disagree with him, right? And again, I don't blame him for this so much as a structure that allows for salespeople (no matter how sincere) to present to "regular" people in a forum namely intended for true, open, honest discourse about a very tricky and intimate condition.
Again, to me... the very nature of this condition and the fragility of those suffering chronic pain would indicate this not to be a great place to allow free commerce. You (Tom) have been on the attack against chiro's, acupuncturists and other pain profiteers for a long time. Certainly, you should be able to understand the correlation here and I hope you respect other people's use of this forum as much as your own.
I'm fine just generally staying away these days... but since you went on the attack against those who wish the forum to remain commerce-free, I felt it was appropriate to respond.

Dear Nicole, I am not in pain, I recovered. I dont have/need a distraction at this point (thank God!) I'm just here to help others. I am a cancer and blood doctor. I know Dr. Sarno too. Thank you for the offer for a free copy of your book for anyone on this forum, that is nice of you. Like I said, Im busy too, but yet I still have some time to come on here and help occasionally. I and the people on this forum look forward to your future posts. Thank you for trying to help the others suffering here |

I have to agree with Bryan and Ace1. No offense to Nicole - I believe she is really trying to help and I am sure her book is very helpful - perhaps I will purchase it. However, I have some experience with this issue on other forums. The forums that are really strict about NO book pushing are the most successful, long lasting and helpful to the average person. When experts and authors populate a forum, the average person becomes afraid to make their concerns and opinions known because they fear the wrath of the so-called "experts" and their adoring fans. It really gets to be a group of fan clubs and the average sufferer of the disease, whom the forum is supposed to be helping, gets lost in the shuffle. Eventually, the average person stops reading and posting.

On the other hand, it can be very helpful to get the input of experts above and beyond their publications, as long as it isn't done in a heavy-handed way that discourages divergent views. It's a fine line. |
