Hi all

I am almost completely recovered. Will post more when finally there but I have one question??

I cant seem to get rid of numbness in my arm happening whilst I am sleeping. This wakes me up on a regular basis with my arm completely cold and numb. Usually this happens when I am lying on my side and the minute I roll onto my back I can feel the warmth spread into my arm. This was one of my very first symptoms right at the start of my TMS journey. I'm trying to work out what the trigger for this is but having difficulty as I am asleep when it happens!!!

At the very beginning I could only sleep on my back and propped up in bed a bit. I managed to solve this by following Steve O's story and forcing myself to lie in different positions until I felt the pain lessen ( I didnt have a husband hitting my legs as I did so, though Steve!) It was agony to begin with, but worked and I can now sleep in any position I like. I'm sure this is still happening due to some conditioning but not sure how to 'fix' ..........can anyone offer any advice??

The numbness in the arms comes from unconscious tension at night, as you already know--erratic bloodflow. Try to do breathing and relaxation techniques before sleep. This helped me past that point.

Relax your brain. I found myself squeezing my brain and grinding my teeth at night, and arms going numb. Emmett Miller's stuff was priceless in my recovery but some of it's out of print now. So I emailed him to ask what else he may have and he said "Abolish Anxiety Now" was the one he would recommend. I haven't heard it yet so I can't personally attest but others have told me it was great. I should probably get it before I recommend it, but he was so instrumental in my recovery that I'm putting my neck out there.

Let me know how you're doing. I used to also use his "Deep Healing" material before sleep, running through the breathing exercises before sleep and I slept deeply through the night for the first time I could ever remember. The idea in healing is finding harmony, which allows the blood to flow naturally and with ease. It all sounds so new-agey but it's true; peace and harmonious living with the surroundings.

We can control our bloodflow somewhat by guided imagery. If you put your hands out with palms down and close your eyes and quietly think about your heartbeat, feel it for about 30 seconds, and then turn your palms up and look at your fingertips and concentrate on them you can feel your heartbeat in them. You've diverted your bloodflow to your finger tips. We do have some control over our autonomic system as Swami Rama proved at the Menninger Institute.

Good luck CatMacDo

Hi Steve, fabulous advice and tips in your reply. I'll download Emmett millers 'abolishing anxiety now' and give this a go along with your other advice. I'll post back later.

Thanks for all your advice and help Steve, much appreciated

I get the numbness, was initially thinking it could due to cold weather. Along with the numbness my fingers starts closing involuntarily in both the hands from my school time for several years. Was thinking it was some fear, however now I understand it is a combination of tensions and fear which I kept for several years unknowingly. These days, as I delve in more on TMS practices, it is making me aware and feel the tensions in my palms.

I tried following Sedona method from one of the older posts. Though I'm still naive, when I try to let the emotions go, having reasonable success in letting it go. At least it is making me feel the tensions, without keep with myself unknowingly.
