I am new to the site and would like to get some feedback on tooth aches, sensative teeth and burning mouth. I have been working on TMS issues for over a year and have been successful with arm, hand and various other symptoms but was skeptical that my constant tooth pain - some were extracted and my burning mouth were TMS related until recently. I really do think that TMS is now the underlying cause.

Regarding the burning mouth. It is amazing that someones mouth can be so red, swollen and burning and have that be TMS related. Just always seemed it was so much more logical to be a food allergy or a reaction.

So I am looking for a few success stories on sensative and sore teeth and anyone that overcame burning mouth.

I did find a few stories on the forum but I was hoping for a few more. I am working with a TMS coach. She has been extremely helpful. But at the same time I find success stories helpful but there just isn't alot of info on this topic.

thanks

Check out John Accardi's success story: 200% recovered:

http://www.tmshelp.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5601

You can also do a search and find his earlier posts in the General Forum and see where he had "come from".

(Can't say I've had any success w/ my own dx'd "burning mouth syndrome" but haven't really worked on it much yet, in terms of it being TMS, either. My doctor said he thought it was related to a food allergy; not sure my specialist agreed w/ that idea though. She did note that even my tongue was stressed during her exam... ie unable to remain still.)

Search Wavy Soul's posts, she had big time dental pain and extractions.

Hi cabane, about 15 years ago, I had a back molar removed. After that, the area around it started burning. It would come out of nowhere. I saw many specialists and got diagnosed with atypical odontalgia. They said it often follows an upper molar extraction. I think it's some kind of nerve damage. They know so little, but put me on a low dose of Elavil and it helped a little for a while, then I tapered off and never took anything again.

In my case, I don't know if it's TMS or what. It went away for years but tonight it is really hurting. It's a burning, knifelike pain that runs along that whole line of teeth. When I wake up it may be gone...it was brought on by having cold applesauce. Sometimes it will start after using my WaterPik or brushing my teeth. My neurologist thinks it could be a form of trigeminal neuralgia...not full blown but along those lines. Maybe the tooth is sensitive (it is) but the dentist says it does not need a root canal. This many years...it's something else.

I have been thinking of going to a dentist that specializes in this type of neurological thing but the cost is prohibitive. It's really hard to live with this. I don't believe that everything is TMS. I have actual nerve damage from a root canal on the other side, where when I just touch that side of my face, it hurts, for the past 12 years. It was fine before that intervention.

Is there anything that helps you? I know people with burning mouth syndrome and they say that the Biotene products help them. I don't think that's what I have. Hope you reply. This is so hard to deal with, feeling like knives are cutting my gums, or a toothache, whatever it is.

Susan828, the strange thing with my teeth is that last week after alot of work stress - I got a really sore back molar. I decided to ask myself if there was any emotional thing going on and thought about the recent promotion I just had and all the extra work. the tooth which has been throbing for 2 days - stopped. So I do think there is a pretty fair amount of TMS stuff going on here. But at the same time, I have had a few other issues that may not be TMS. So it is hard picking a side with 100% confidence. That might be why it just lingers. thanks for replying.

I did have burning mouth and tongue for a few months. It when away when all doctors and dentist said they don't see anything wrong beside some minor teeth problem which they don't think can be the cause. The symptoms tend to get worst while I'm under stress and get better when I'm at peace.

I noticed that many more females get this kind of symptoms than men. They care more about their smile than men in general. I kind of think that tms symptoms usually occured on the part of our body that we care about the most or use the most. Seem like many more women got problem with their eyes, skin, teeth, hand, breast cancer... more man suffered from impotent, knee, elbow, and back problem.
Just a thought.

Balto, that is very interesting. i never looked at it that way. What was the big secret for you? Did you just ignore the mouth issues? Or did you talk to the brain? or did you have some other way of getting over it?

thanks

Hi Cabane,

Regarding the burning mouth,---google"geographic tongue" and look and read the symptoms. See if they are similar to what you have. If it is GT, it definitely can be TMS related. I've had it years ago WITH teething pain. It was all TMS. Let me know what you came across after the google and best of luck to you. My TMS is really dropping off because of all the things that I am doing. It's more than 90% gone. Get we'll and stay well my friend,
