Since reading sarnos book ive went from 0% to 10% to 85% now back to 20%.heres my question - the days i feel good and i exercise- the next day i hurt-i exercise light as not to pull anything( Resuming all physical activity as the good doc says) and this is after the pain resides and im feeling good,i journal as the doc says,i journal about past-present and in the now,i focus on parts that dont hurt-i practice reversing -imaging and so forth-but it seems im stuck -is there anything -im doing wrong-i have been stressed this week more than ever!i know anxiety brings this on but aint that what affirmations-imaging- annd journaling r supposed to take care of.id figure riding the elliptical would be no problem but its starting to hurt like it used too-i need some good wisdom please-is it possible that i still have a fear of the exercise and in response im having a conditioned loop that is causing the pain? |

Ok Eric remember if in pain, there is nothing physical that is the cause of your symptoms. So in other words. It is not the lack of activity etc. it is something else which is a revved up, tense, conditioned mind. You will never be able to just challenge pain with physical activity and cure yourself. The way to recovery is not linear, in other words there are fluctuations of good and bad until you get more good than bad. Then eventually bad is very mild or not present anymore. Affirmations and visualzations take time to work, months at minimum to a couple years, assuming you eliminate negative talk and thoughts as much as possible. I think journaling is counterpriductive as it takes you out of the present tense and may revv your mind up more reliving the past. It is better to constantly keep a watch on your inner reactions and this will teach you way more than journaling, then when your inner reactions are intense you observe them, don't add more fuel to them, accept them, then use your affirmations to counter them, but without immediate expectation. I think that the most common reason for symptoms in this society is being in a rush and trying get rid of the present moment. If in pain and you can't figure it out, then this is usually the cause 95%. You said you were under a lot of stress. So you see, just use the affirmations to counter this. |

Thanks ace ill use more affirmations-maybe something like:( the exercise is no problem)-(i dont fear the exercise-etc...)this was off the top of my head....i do feel like i am conditioned to expect pain wether i lift 10 pounds or 300-for instance i worked out with 300 yesterday and today i feel great-i really need to know more about defeating condtioning unless the affirmations and visualzations (and i know they are) is the secret because mentally ive been telling myself im ok with positive affirmations while i work out-im perfectly fine -no pain-i know the codition loop is in my conscience -its like what i feared for almost my whole life-and as i know patience is power-if it takes years so be it-i know what it is and thats a fact-the stress has been way out there this week and as the week is over i feel right back to 85% again.thanks again ace hope you have a great week end |

There's a lot of TMS WISDOM in Ace1's post that bears repeating, so I will:

Hi Eric, If you use what Ace1 said above you will heal. I just want to add that we also need to do more to prevent tms/anxiety from happening instead of just treating it when it happened. We washed hand, we take vaccines, we stay away from germy places... so we don't get flu and cold every year. We can do the same with tms/anxiety.
We need to de-stress our life. Get our life in order. Simplify it, stop prograstinate, be more compassionate, relax and enjoy and appreciate the simpler things in life, share more, laugh more, and above all, accept more.
Acceptance is one of the most powerful tools we have to deal with all those negative emotion. It is not what happened to us, it is how we react to it that caused emotional turbulences and pain. We can look at all those poor and desperate people all over the world, all they got is acceptance, without acceptance they wouldn't survice.
deal with your stress. Try to minimize it if you can. Try to find another way to deal with stress instead of just being it's victim. If all else failed, try to accept it. Stress, situations that produced stress is part of life, we are all going through it. It will build character, it will help us be stronger, it will not last, it will be a great learning experience... so accept it and move on. Don't dwell on it.
Think of it like the weather. When it is too hot outside, if we don't stay in the shade, if we don't drink enough fluid, if we don't minimize physical activities, we may get heat stroke. When it is too cold, if we don't dress warm enough, if we expose our body to the cold environment too long, we may get frostbite and may die from it. We all have stress in life, but if we expose ourself to stress for too long it will hurt. It will become tms, anxiety, panic, ptsd, OCD, CFS,...
- So try to limit stress in your life as much as you can. Adopt a "I don't give a Sh.." mentality. - Try to add more laughter, more fun, more compassion, more love, more sharing, more positive into your life. They help cancel out the negative in your life. - Acceptance, acceptance, acceptance. Bad things will happen. We all will suffer from lost, from grief, from this and that and nothing we can do about it. Just being more acceptance and move on.
Hope this help.
------------------------ No, I don't know everything. I'm just here to share my experience. |

Great posts, guys...Balto your wisdom is extraordinary. Thank you for the reassurances...that this will eventually fade away one day. I am already amazed at how much I have grown as a person thru this whole experience...it IS a blessing in disguise, I am glad it woke me up to how badly I was treating myself... |
