Hi everyone,
The free online event with Alan Gordon, LCSW, will be starting in 45 minutes. I think it will be a landmark event that no one will want to miss. You'll actually be able to listen in while a very talented TMS Therapist gives feedback to a very eager TMSer who is struggling in her recovery (You can read about her here: http://www.tmswiki.org/forum/threads/newbie.348/ ).
It's really one that you don't want to miss. Details, including how to connect, can be found below.

Hey Everyone,
The Peer Network’s weekly drop in chat will have a special guest this Saturday, June 9. Alan Gordon, LCSW is a psychotherapist in Los Angeles, CA, specializing in the treatment of chronic pain. Alan is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Southern California, has authored publications on the treatment of chronic pain, and has presented on the topic of pain treatment at conferences, mental health facilities, and pain centers throughout California. He served as the chair for the 2nd PPD Conference, which took place at UCLA in 2010.
You may know Alan from articles he has written including Breaking the Pain Cycle and Miracles of Mindbody Medicine. The Miracles of Mindbody Medicine, while written primarily for professionals is a great source information for peers as well. Breaking the Pain Cycle is another terrific article, and discusses a problem that many of us struggle with and provides techniques for dealing with it.
The event will consist of a personalized feedback section followed by a Q&A portion. Gordon will focus primarily on how to feel the feelings that are responsible for the pain and how to get to the heart of the repression. The event will include audio and text chat component, so you can ask questions throughout.
If you haven't attended one of the drop in chats yet, I highly recommend making this one your first. Gordon has a great understanding of TMS and it will be terrific to be able to chat live with a TMS practitioner.
The event will be Saturday June 9th at 3:00 PM EST. I will update with more details in a day or to, especially with how to log-in.

Hi everyone,
The free online event with Alan Gordon, LCSW, will be starting in 30 minutes. I think it will be a landmark event that no one will want to miss. WOW This was really a great event! THANKS forestfortrees in letting us know, especially with your last-minute update posts, saying it was going to be on in 30 minutes ... I managed to log in and it was very appreciated! Please say thanks again to Alan!
I think you said it was recorded (?) .. and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for more help. I plan to listen to it again, myself. A participant graciously interacted with Alan, and demonstrated, right there in the moment, a MOST COMPELLING example of the difference between THINKING about a feeling (and probably repressing it), and actually FEELING it. Right on tape, and audible to all. She also mentioned compelling and "frequently asked concerns" about feelings... like NOT wanting to feel like a "rage-ful" person, worried that the feelings would never stop and she would "go crazy", etc etc. Alan addressed them all. A really excellent event, with that being just ONE part of it.
Alan gave lots of other answers and pointed out in a very insightful way, what some of the REAL issues are, in dealing with TMS / our thoughts, etc...
THANKS again to forestfortrees and Alan!

I too was listening and was so grateful to Alan for giving up his time. His webinar slot was originally meant to be for one hour. He stayed for about two. I am also grateful to the people who spoke with him and shared their emotional pain with us.
The recording will be posted on the wiki, hopefully today. I would encourage all of you to listen and if such an event happens again - Alan did say he would come back - be sure to tune in and hear him live. There is also a text chat going on simultaneously where you can post comments and questions. |

Hi RSR and BB, I'm so sorry that I missed your responses but really glad you liked it. I've been so busy recently that I haven't had many chances to visit this forum, but I'm going to try to start visiting more frequently. I also needed a big break after all of the work that went into organizing the event.
I'm happy to say that Alan has already signed up to do another event, this one on July 21st. The event has been receiving great reviews elsewhere as well. On the TMS Wiki's Facebook page (please join it! It will help us spread the word!), TMSHelp user MarjRC wrote, "I've been listening to this for an hour now and find it very, very helpful. marj :)."
The audio is finally up and can be found by clicking here. Of note, also, is this thread where Annie has posted updates on her progress, including the following exciting gem: quote: Big News!
Yesterday I was confronted by our lawn mowing dude who does the kite shop and our home. (I owe him money of course) He tracked me down at the bank and ridiculed me as I sat in my car sobbing (still) over my lack of ability to pay him. He said he wouldn't mow anymore. I said I'd make other arrangements. He said "well I don't know who will do it and not get paid."
That did it. I was so angry! I was so "stuck". Everyday when I've returned home, I see a very long lawn. I feel like "what's next? Broken down cars in the yard?" So......
I went to a neighbor and asked to borrow her lawn mower. She only had the old push kind - no engine. And I decided I would mow the lawn.
Our neighbors stopped by and their 19 year old son offered to do it when they returned from the beach. And I was warned by them that I would "hurt my back" if I did it myself.
But I did it anyway. I mowed our lawn. And I am out of my pain medication. I have some stuff that is weaker, but didn't need much.
I did it. My back did not hurt as I pushed that mower - so I did the back yard. It's deeper and tends to be more wet.
I DID IT!!!
Of course I am sore today, but a "good sore". Nothing like getting that anger out by doing something yourself.
But now I gotta rake....maybe tomorrow.
Alan - thank you. You "clicked" something in me and my life has changed since simply one week ago!
Hope to see you all in chat today - but so far I've fielded 3 phone calls since I tried to write this.
That took quite a lot of courage, as she has really been struggling with her recovery.
I care so much for Annie/Beach Girl that I sent her a copy of SteveO's book. It's actually my fourth copy! (One for myself, one for my kindle, and two to lend out.) One of the reasons that I sent it was that Steve's recovery relied heavily on returning to normal activities, even when it hurt. That's how I recovered and I'm glad to see her making progress doing the same thing.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the session and I look forward to hosting many more. This week's drop in chat is about to start 25 minutes from now and it sounds like Annie/Beach Girl might be there as well. Regardless, there will probably be a lot of discussion of last week's event.
Here's to recovery!

I don't see a way to play the audio, just a chat log when I click the link. Is it because I'm on an iPad?
Thanks Forest. |

Hmm... I just tested and, sure enough, it doesn't work on iDevices. I'm working on a fix, though, and should have it up soon.

I'm glad you like it, Dustin! I knew that this was going to be a great event beforehand, and it didn't at all disappoint.
By the way, if anyone would like to schedule time with Alan during the next call (currently scheduled for July 21st), just let me know and I'll make sure that you get time. If you want to use a pseudonym that is different from your forum name, feel free to contact me via email at forestfortreesweb@gmail.com so I know to look for your new pseudonym. I can also let you know what to expect and help you out with the technology.
