My pain has been moving around my back for the past few weeks. Now I'm feeling pain and tenderness right on the lumbar spine in a very specific spot.

This has got my "Oh my God, maybe it's physical!" thoughts kicking up.

Someone please let me know if this is typical of TMS (that this area is nothing to worry about). This spot is particularly fearful for me.

I think from our head to our toes, every parts of our body is vunerable to tms/anxiety symptoms. If it is real physical it shouldn't move. If you cut your hand you would feel pain right at the cut. If you broke a bone, the pain will be where the bone is broken, it doesn't move to another place.

Agreed, as long as there are nerve endings that can transmit pain from mild oxygen deprivation, any body part can most likely become a distraction depending on what is culturally in vogue.

Shamrock,

I used to have sections on my spin that if I pushed on were very painful...as if they were very bruised. It was hard for me to believe this wasn't physical at times...but it was TMS.....enough said?

Ask yourself this, is there any limit the mind wont go to in trying to protect you from the emotions you don't want to experience?!

The mind/body is very powerful and certainly capable of fooling us without the proper education.

You're being fooled my friend.....and if you have even the smallest amount of doubt you're hosed!

work on your inner game, stop doing things to address the pain. Allow the pain and focus on the work....when it starts moving is usually when you've got it on the run.....KEEP IT UP!

Absolutely. You normally wouldn't allow a person to fool you or con you would you? Why not personify this pain, give it a name if you like and deal with it as if you were dealing with someone who is trying to get the better of you. Be in control of it, don't let it control you.

Good Luck & Good Health

Consider this a sign of progress. TMS is "on the run" and stepping up its efforts.

If the pain was due to structural cause, why would it move around? It would remain in the place where the physical problem exists.

Dr. Sarno explains this in his books, so perhaps you need a refresher.

Moving Pain question,???? now that is precisely MY problem as my sciatic pain has NOT moved for over 2 years it is precise and consistant so you can see why i am still praying to be convinced that it is TMS and not stuctural, I am longing for the pain to move someelse and then i might be convinced what is your explanation?? With many thanks and appreciation Ophelia

Hi Shamrock, Ophelia,

I had my Sciatica pain in my back for 20 years and then I evicted it in the year 2000. It took up residency in my neck, very quietly and unnoticeably at first it was a good tenant and didn’t party too much. This became the status quo for 12 years, until recently. The other day I had a big argument with my tenant, and guess what? It tried to go back to my lower back. I had the worst sciatica attack in 12 years. You can read about it here if you need.

So I have added another TMS trait to my “now I’m being silly” list. It pertains to both yourself and Opheila. Read #11.

Hope this helps

The pain may move around and it may not. In your case you have sciatic pain for over 2 years and what have your doctors been able to do for you? Even if you not completely convince that the pain is tms, why not treat it as if it is tms for a month. Make up your mind. Take a leap of faith and treat it as tms. Remove all doubt from your mind for a month. Remove all fear of the symptoms from your mind for just a month. Just invest one month of your life and refuse to fear it. Refuse to give it any attention and see if you're going to be cure or not.

You've had 2 years to deal with it without any success already. Why not trust Sarno and try to deal with your pain as tms for just one month. You've got nothing to loose. Right?

You've been doing the same thing and getting the same result over and over for 2 years. Why not trying something new for once? It is YOUR CHOICE.

A Chinese proverb says “Madness is doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different outcome”
