If anyone has been AN ACTUAL PATIENT of Dr. Sarno (seen him in a person and treated by him for TMS) please tell me your experience and tell me if it is worth paying 1,000.00 dollars for his consultation fee. I am trying to plan a wedding that I am paying for and I own a home and have the possibility of being excessed from my job as a teacher. So, money is tight, but if it really is the key to see him instead of trying a program online....I will try my best to do it. I already spoke to his office who would have accepted as a patient because I live in NY...but the cost threw me. I have spent so much money on treatments that I am afraid to waste anymore. (Not to say I don't think the man is a genious! I truly believe in his work.)

Please tell me your experiences in detail! What did he tell you? What plan did he set you up with? Did you get something from it that was different from reading his book?

Well it looks like our similarities continue (I answered your other thread). I too live in new york, and wonder the same thing. After "beating" it the first time, I was kind of relieved that I didn't drop that money that I don't have on seeing him. But now that I'm relapsing, I'm reconsidering. Did you happen to find out if insurance would cover any part of it?

I haven't seen him but from what I've garnered from folks here who have, it's not like you see him once for the TMS or not diagnosis for a grand, the cost also includes the group meetings afterwards. And, once he takes you on as a patient you are a patient of his for life! When you get a relapse you can call him and he will talk you down out of your TMS, which it usually is. He's 90 or nearing it so I wouldn't dawdle too long. You've had TMS since you were 13, how many more years of your life do you want to suffer and how much more do you think TMS will cost you in wasted medical and quack treatments and snake oils?

You've missed work for a week due to probably TMS, what did that cost you? $1000 for a new life, seems like a no brainer to me and if I lived in the tri-states, I would do it in a NY minute. It sounds like your TMS gremlin doesn't want you to leave it behind.

My insurance said they would cover 200.00 worth because he is out of network. That does not help much. But I am torn. That is a lot of money but if it is the answer, of course I would pay it. I'm just nervous that I will improve at first, like you, and then relapse and feel like I wasted my money. I know you are his patient for life, I just don't know if seeing him would make more of a difference than reading his book and practicing it on my own through the free structured plan from the wiki link. I know there are no guarantees in life...it is just 1000.00 or 800.00 haha. That's a lot. It sucks that it always comes down to money. I was so disappointed when they told me the cost.

I live in WA state, if I lived in New York, I would make appt immediately.

I feel that part of my lingering doubt is because I haven't been able to hear anyone say you have TMS for sure.

If a doc has ruled out serious disease, and you have pain, then yes... you have TMS for sure.

Next!?! OK TT, your next, tell Marla "you have TMS for sure".

Take care, -Stryder

I would love to tell Marla she has TMS, but without palpation it would not be a proper diagnosis and I would be practicing medicine without a license. I'm only a tennis player but I could show her how to hit a big serve.

Better yet, there is a TMS doctor in Seatle and sveral TMS therapists up her way in WA. If Marla looks in my sig below she should be able to find their contact info., if not I'll look it up.

Artgal,

I have seen Dr. Sarno. What the others are sharing is correct in my mind. If you would like the "details", please read my "success story" on the tmswiki ( http://tmswiki.wetpaint.com/account/MatthewNJ ). Feel free to email me. Just put something obvious in the subject so you don't end up in my SPAM folder

I have been a patient of Dr. Sarno's, once in 1999 and again in 20007.
I think if seeing him will confirm you belief that you suffer with TMS then you should go.
Sometimes hearing the words from Dr. Sarno is enough to turn things around, sometimes not. The classes are a repetition of the information given in MINDBODY PRESCRIPTION, and again for some having someone explain the information is better than reading it.
Before you see him you must rule out any infection, cancer or any other illness. I had to bring a copy of my MRI report for him to see.
By the way you are not his patient for life. I had to pay in 1999 and again in 2007(lesser fee)
There used to be group meetings where people having difficulty could meet with those who had successfully gotten over TMS. I believe those were discontinued.
There is no treatment. No Plan...We all approach our TMS in different ways. Everyone has stress it doesn't go away ever. It is just part of life.
I have found for me that going ahead with my life is the best treatment. Show your pain that it cannot stop you. Most of all try to stop thinking , talking , reading and searching.
I cannot tell you why the knowledge works . If I really had some idea of what worked for me I would let you know. The only thing I am sure of is if it is TMs it can go away .. Take the focus off and good luck.

I teach art on long island too! This is my fourth year. I'd love to know what district...if you want to exchange email: artgal5986@yahoo.com. Thank you for letting me know your experience. I am starting to feel that it is not necessary to meet with John Sarno, I have found many books with programs to follow for TMS. It is just frustrating because I know it is going to take a while and I want some relief quick from this pain! Do you feel you have overcome TMS? Do you still have pain?

I still have pain. Don't let it get the best of me. I think my brain is wired that way.
I am happy. I have a good life . More than I ever could have expected.
