Hiya,

I wanted to let everyone know that the wiki's Q&A with an Expert program is back and running again, and we recently received a response from TMS therapist Eric Sherman, who is one of Sarno's most trusted psychotherapist. Sherman has been working alongside Dr. Sarno for years and I think its great that we were able to get him to answer a few questions.

He answered a question about how to handle a family member who is not supportive in our recovery. I just posted it on the wiki and think his response is terrific. The holiday's can be really stressful and it is always difficult to talk about our symptoms with family. Hopefully his response will be of comfort to someone. I would love to hear what you all think of it.

Best,

Forest

The link doesn't work, for me at least. Would love to read his response. And great work on getting one of Sarno's trusted psychotherapists to answer some questions. This is really a seriously great site. So much work put into helping others. Not real religious but this deserves a God Bless you!

Ugh, that is so frustrating! The old site (hosted by a company called Wetpaint) works fine for a while but then slows to a crawl, so we are working very hard on creating a new TMS Wiki on newer software that is much more powerful and reliable. We are determined to build a strong platform where TMSers like you and I can share our experiences with TMS/PPD and help more people get out of pain. The new software will help with this and we are quite excited, but it takes a lot of time to move a web site with 600 hand-made pages.

Anyway, if the link I gave you is down, I encourage you to check out the corresponding page on the new wiki.

The new site is still a little rough, but it's much more reliable and will be getting faster and faster and better and better. (The above link may only work for about another month or so. In a couple of weeks, all links to tmswiki.org will redirect to the new software and you will only need one web address, so things will be simpler.)

By the way, we also have another Q&A answer from another of Dr. Sarno's most trusted psychologists, Fran Anderson. It is called How do I overcome initial resistance to "the work?". Dr. Arlene Feinblatt, about whom Dr. Sarno wrote, in the Divided Mind, "it was essential to develop appropriate psychotherapy for these patients. Dr. Feinblatt has done that job admirably," also contributed a piece about a style of psychotherapy called Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.

Your kind words really mean a tremendous amount to the whole team. We've all suffered terribly from our own TMS, and we help on the wiki because we are so grateful for how hard work by Dr. Sarno and others (such as Dave, the owner of TMSHelp, who, as Tennis Tom noted, offers brilliant advice). Since we can never pay those people back for how much they have freed us from our pain, we instead try to "Pay it forward," by creating peer run resources to help those still in pain and empowering others to do the same.

We started out as a very small group several years ago, but since we have incorporated as a nonprofit, we are growing much more rapidly. That is always the challenge, though - finding people who know enough about TMS to write and edit wiki pages, "people-persons" to moderate the chat room and lead teams, and people who have their own ideas to share to write user pages. Our goal is to build a large social movement to spread the word about this very painful but eminently treatable condition. When you get over your own pain, I hope you will consider helping out as well!

(By the way, if anyone reading this would be willing to help out, please post here or contact me or another team member to help find a way of joining in that would feel meaningful (and manageable!) to you.)

The link worked for me and it was a great article. I have a spouse who is not only not supportive, she is actually confrontational if I bring up TMS. The article gave some great and helpful info for me. Thanks!

I am glad you both enjoyed reading the article. I really enjoyed how Dr. Sherman gave clear ideas on how to handle the situation. It can always be a little difficult to explain TMS/PPD to someone we are close to. This article gave me some great insights on the best way to handle these situations. I do think my favorite part of what Dr. Sherman said was, "if a patient gets better by swinging a chicken over his or her head, all that matters is that the patient gets better". Put another way, there are many routes to the top of the mountain, but the view is always the same." There are so many different techniques that we can use to get better from TMS. It is all about figuring out what works for you. Its one reason why I think forums like this do so well, because it is simply a group of people talking about how they were able to get better.
