I am a patient of Dr. Sarno. I am experiencing a severe pain reoccurance. The best description is sciatica, which Dr. sarno laughs at. My left leg is numb and I cannot walk without having to stop and squat down or take a seat (if one is available).
I know this is TMS, but I am having a real problem shaking this pain.
Does anyone think that I should give Dr. Schubiner's online course a try?

I'm guessing that while you objectively realize your pain is likely TMS, you're not buying it emotionally. Until you stop worrying, it's going to be an uphill battle. |

I haven't tried his course yet. (Seeing a TMS therapist soon.) But, I know someone who has and loved it. The book is much cheaper and also comes highly recommended.
I just bought "The Divided Mind" on audio-book to listen to, as well. (Sarno.) I think that's worth buying... and listening to, repeatedly.
I just ordered "The Presence Process," so I have a book to get through. But, Schubiner's book will be next for me. I want to meet with my TMS therapist first, though... to see what he recommends.

I think Dr. Schubiner's course is well worth the money, time and effort. He gives some tools that you don't get anywhere else. I have a severe enough case of TMS that his course hasn't been enough. I've been seeing a therapist.
Since you are a patient of Dr. Sarno, I'm surprised you aren't going back to him for another consultation, and maybe seeing one of his therapists if necessary. I wish that option was available for me. |

Have you seen Dr. Sarno for this recurrence? If so, what has he recommended that you should do? Has he prescribed any pain-killers?

Why don't you try the free structured education program on TMS Wiki. It is very good & follows a daily plan on what to do, how to think, journal etc. Very coherent & well put together by people who have suffered from TMS & also many contributions by people in the medical field including Dr. Schubiner.
Good Luck & Good Health Mala |

This is my first post but as a fellow sciatica sufferer for 3 years and having read all Dr. Sarno's books, I loved the idea that he laughed at sciatica, and find it immensely reassuring, i am also ploughing through Dr. Schubiner's book, he too is a wonderful man, you are beyond lucky to have TMS doctors where you are absolutely nothing even vaguely resembling them exist in France! Good luck to all of us |

Tom,
Yes, he and I spoke. He prescribed vicodin.
He assured me that this is TMS. |

Cool, thanks Mark, I've got some vicodin left over from a couple of procedures that I've been mildly playing around with for my hip. |

Just checking in. Its been about two months since my intial bout with sciatica or otherwise known as TMS.
My foot is still numb and that scares me. I know that there is nothing wrong with me, but it still makes me a little apprehensive.
Otherwise, I am off the vicodin and using tylenol. I know that is a good thing. I am not walking real far but I am functioning.
I can usually beat TMS very quickly but this has been a nightmare. Loss of sleep. Pain in both legs. muscle spasms.
I come to this website to get advice so if anyone has anything, please fire away. I am trying avoid an epidural. I know that is not an option with Sarno, but I can't shake the fact that it may help me. |
