Hi, I'm new here and I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a typical TMSer and have suffered from "RSI" since my late teens (25 now). I'm also a typical "RSI" case - I'd tried just about everything with no results and hit rock bottom. After reading TMP, I was going to add Sarno to the "didn't work" list, until I read some success stories on here by chance.

After TMP, I was focusing on trigger point therapy, with slight results. I was convinced TPs were the cause of most chronic pain, but now it appears that they're merely a symptom of TMS. So here's my plan.

* Follow the 8-week course in Full Catastrophe Living (mindfulness meditation).
* Practice mindfulness in daily life to improve awareness.
* Do Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE) every day.
* Use the dive reflex/hand warming technique if I lose control.
* Start journalling.
* Reprogram my self-destructive beliefs/thought patterns and personality traits.
* Aerobic exercise and stretching.
* Anti-inflammatory diet.

Anything else I should add? I've already seen a great benefit from practising mindfulness. I've managed to avoid blowing up at least 50 times in the past week, even today during the longest, worst customer service experience in my life! TRE also seems promising, but I only started today. RST sounds interesting, but anger outbursts feel like stress to me, and punching stuff hurts my wrist

One thing I was thinking is that TPs can be extremely tough to break down, which probably explains why some people take months to recover where others take weeks. I'm even considering continuing the massage sessions as a complementary treatment to speed up the process.

Hi and welcome,
not sure what you're really asking here but I will say this. Make sure you read "Healing Back Pain" by Sarno, then also read Pain Free for Life by Scott Brady. Not sure what TP therapy is, but if you anything physical to treat your symptoms, there's a good chance you'll get stuck.

Spend some time reading around all the different posts.......there is gold in these pages, you just gotta go looking for it

A trigger point is what most people call a 'knot' in the muscle. It's very much like a knot in an extended elastic band, which leaves the muscle in a state of chronic tension. They're responsible (in physical terms) for the majority of unexplained chronic pain symptoms, since they can refer pain if they occur in areas along the nervous or circulatory systems. I have many in my neck and shoulder muscles, which refer pain to my elbow, wrist and hand, for example. For some reason, despite hard scientific backing, you're as likely to be told about them by your doctor as you are about TMS.

The problem is that they don't heal easily, if at all, by themselves. However, I doubt there's been any research on the effects of mindbody treatments on TPs. If I were to speculate, I'd imagine the improved circulation gained through rebalancing your ANS with mindbody techniques would begin to break them down, since it's mainly a lack of nutrient-rich blood that maintains them. I'd also suggest that the loss of self-regulation caused by TMS is one of the main causes of TPs. This might explain a post I've read here about somebody's large knot in their back disappearing.

For people recovering using Sarno's suggestions, knowledge about TPs is probably unnecessary. I think drawing the link between them could help give a more specific account of how the pain occurs physically, and how to judge when it's safe to resume activities though.

Hi Gibbon, thanks for the reply. I already read your story

I've been doing meditation and TRE every day for eight days now, and my general state of mind and ability to relax and cope with everyday situations is much better already.

The tough part is the unconscious stuff. I've been reading a lot of stuff on emoclear about dealing with feelings and repressed emotions, but I'm still not sure where to start. Did you use any books?

I never thought about using a councillor. Turns out there are two in London. What sort of stuff did you do? Did it take many sessions?

I know if you search this site for trigger points you will find a few discusiions on them and healing them. My googling trigger points some how lead me to this website in the first place. Good Luck!
