For the last several years, I have been 85% better regarding my sciatica due to Sarno, but I have run into a rough two month period with butt and leg pain (never back pain) which I can't seem to shake with TMS work. And yes, I do have a lot of TMS personality traits, trauatic childhood events, and current stressful issues to deal with. I had every type of physical treatment and surgery under the sun before getting serious about Sarno...I don't have the necessary income at this point to enter into psychoanalysis...Let me get to the point - and please don't scream at me for getting off the Sarno bandwagon - at least momentarily...The one possibly relevant surgical treatment I have not had is piriformis syndrome surgery...I know that Sarno calls piriformis syndrome a "non-diagnosis"...Does anyone have any real data regarding the success/failure outcomes regarding this surgery? (I know that there is up to a year recovery period.)

I think I have answered my own question - at least partially. If I read it right, one surgeon admitted that he only had a 15% successful outcome rate on this procedure, but he predicted that the rate would improve with more practice (yikes!). Surprised that he would put that out on the net, but it's nice he was honest...I needed to get that surgical avenue out of my mind so I could re-focus on Sarno and his disciples, so now I think I can...Wish there had been more data on the net about outcomes for anterior spinal fusions before I had one. Of course, now the word is out that spinal fusions rarely help, but it's too late for me - no better from that procedure (acually worse)...We do have to focus on outcomes and evidence - whatever the treatment possibility.

Try not to think physical, think psychological, push self to defeat conditioning. That's the whole ball of wax. Too much to explain. You need to read all of the Sarno books (and hear the CD and see the video), perhaps starting with Healing Back Pain, and read some of the other TMS professionals' (disciples of Sarno) books that you will hear about on this forum - only then will you know what I am talking about.
