Jaya: I have gone through two periods in my life where I suffered severe panic attacks and anxiety. I certainly ate well enough during those periods, but lost significant weight. The last time -- a couple of years ago -- I lost 35 pounds. My wife was concerned at my weight loss, and so was I. I joked that I was on the "Anxiety Diet", but it wasn't really funny. I think my anxiety definitely is linked to my TMS and pain issues, as those two periods also corresponded to my two worst pain periods. |

I've been on the anxiety diet, as well.
You say it's despite "eating well"? Before concluding that you are indeed eating well, take stock of what you are actually eating for a few days. It might surprise you how little is going in.
Another thing to consider is how much is going out. Sometimes anxiety can either cause constipation or its runny opposite.
And of course there is the old check with your doc thing if you're not sure. |

It's really pretty straightforward in my view. If you're losing weight you should be able to connect that with either eating less or exercising more. If you can't and you've lost a lot of weight, you should probably be checked out...
The only other thing I can think of is certain medications, like anti-depressants. They might muck with a person's weight... |

You're at your ideal weight an the docs say you are healthy? Then what is the problemo?
I'd say they are right about the new OCD thing, as I am OCD Positive, and that they are wrong about most people gaining weight with anxiety. My experience and observations have shown otherwise.
Relax. OCD Red Flags are out!

jaya...
I don't know if the OCD thing can be "cured", but maybe kept under control. Or put to more constructive use.
I'm working on putting OCD to use for me in a positive way. Someone not ago posted something about the Paleo or Primal lifestyle, so I checked into it.
Some of it makes good sense to me, especially the MovNat part of it where you move like you did as a child. When I was a child, and when I got hurt, I never entertained the the thought that I wouldn't get better. So I have, in effect, learned that injuries don't heal -- and it's not been from personal experience.
So I am going to swap out one obsession -- my damned side hurting-- to working on the Primal me. This way, when I think of my body I can think not of my stiff side but what kind of lousy shape am I in and what am I eating, and how can I correct it all. |

OCD is TMS. TMS is NOT something you are "cured" of. TMS is universal and part of the human condition. We can learn to understand it, work with it, work around it or be thankful for it when we need it's protection.
