Hi all, I am new to TMS, VERY new. I've been journaling via a blog for about a week. I started the blog just after reading Healing Back Pain by Dr Sarno. I believe in TMS but find the book a bit simplistic as I try to put it into practice. Just being aware is not removing all pain and I still injure myself at work. I am a nurse and I do very heavy patient care.

I believe in the ultimate goal to get rid of chronic pain through awareness of how feelings get buried in my muscles. And if you take a look at my blog, you'll see that I am working daily on identifying the feelings and letting the pain go which is helping tremendously. Then last night I really hurt my shoulder while moving a patient. I was angry during the move, and rushing the process, and allowing too many distractions, so I know why it happened, but cannot reverse the pain. It is gradually getting better and I am not going to my scardy place about this injury becoming permanent which is progress.

I have stopped doing the therapies I was taught in PT so that I can focus fully on using the Mindbody workbook by Dr Shechter. I did ice my shoulder last night and it provided more of a distraction than anything. I managed to fall asleep despite the throbbing and it was is a lot better today and I am trying not to limit the use of it.

The only advice Dr. Sarno gives in Healing Back Pain for setbacks is to take pain pills and go to bed. I do not take pain pills and do not have the luxury of going to bed! I am waiting for some new books from Amazon, the Divided Mind by Sarno, an Ekhart Tolle book and one called Finding Happiness in a Frustrating World by Jim Johnson. I am totally working on cleaning up my thinking and thinking psychologically.

But what to do with the pain that isn't about staying stuck with the TMS? This is my question of the day. I am sure I will have many more. Thanks for being here!

Thanks
Sue

nebber mind, I just read a bunch of posts with similar questions and the pain went away. I look forward as much to a release from the obsession as I do to a release from the pain itself. My mind has much better things to do!

take good care,
Sue
