Hi Everyone,
I wanted to let you all know about an upcoming event in October. If you have benefited, like I have, from reading the amazing success stories here on the forum (Thanks Dave), you may be interested in attending the first ever, TMS Success Stories-Live Panel. I believe there is something particularly inspiring about hearing someone share their story in a personal way such as this.

It will be an interactive webinar, fashioned after Dr. Sarno's monthly Alumni Panels. One of Dr. Sarno's patients and I are hosting this event using an internet program called "dimdim". Four people who have had success, using Dr. Sarno's theory, will tell their stories of recovery. Video will be used for the stories, followed by the opportunity for participants to send questions by text, which will be answered by the four panelists.

Date: October 11, 2009 (Sunday)
Time: 12:00 PM (EDT) (9:00 AM PST) (5:00 PM BST)
Place: Internet www.dimdim.com

There is no charge for attending and it is pretty easy to log in and join. You can find more details about the event on the TMS Wiki:
http://tmswiki.wetpaint.com/page/TMS+Success+Stories+-+Live+Panel

The event will run for two hours, but you can log in and leave whenever you choose. In a nut shell: Go to dimdim.com, click join meeting, enter name of meeting 'tmswiki', then enter a name (you can use a pseudonym for privacy).

Our hope is that this event will help others working to apply this life changing information to their lives. We are so grateful to have finally found a way out of our years of pain, and this is our small way to "pay it forward".

Hope you can attend.

Thanks,
Peg

Hi all,
Just a reminder about the TMS Success Stories-Live Panel event this coming Sunday. The specifics are above in the first post and more details can be found on the wiki:
http://tmswiki.wetpaint.com/page/TMS+Success+Stories+-+Live+Panel

When I was first recovering after having 10 years of back pain, this is something that I think would have been helpful to me. Hearing what worked and what didn't, an opportunity to ask questions and simply knowing that I was not alone or crazy.

Hope to see you there.

Thanks,
Peg

Looking forward!

For me, one of the most helpful things in my recovery was talking to someone who had recovered using Dr Sarno's book, so I hope this will be useful to those recovering.

Thanks Marsha,
Hope to see you there. I sent you an e-mail through the forum.
I will be posting the full version of my TMS success story to this forum following the Live Panel Event.

Take care,

For people bad with calendars, (like me) the actual live panel will start in about an hour, at 12:00 Eastern Time (US). It should go for about 2 hours...

It's perfectly fine to show up late and/or just listen, if that's what you'd like.

Hope you can join us!

Thanks everyone who participated. I can't believe we got 28 people at once! Some very interesting ideas floating around.

Thank you to all the panelists and those who helped organize. Lots of great information. It helped put me back on track again. Sometimes when you've been going at it for awhile, you need some extra inspiration every few weeks to keep believing and to stay positive.

Thanks to everyone who attended. While I was there to share my success story, it was a learning experience for me as well. The questions posed and insights shared were amazing.

It's wonderful that we can always learn from one another.

Thanks again.
Best,
Peg

Most people have too much dignity to quote themselves, but I'm afraid I don't... I just sent the following to the Yahoo Group where Matthew most frequently discusses TMS, and I thought I'd share it here since it captures the excitement of the event:
quote:
Hi all,

Matthew may be too modest to announce this here, but since I think of [tms_support] as Matthew's "home group," I thought that I would do my best to embarass ... ahem ... congratulate him on leading the effort to organize an inspiring live panel. Earlier today, there were a whopping 28 people listening as he introduced each of the four people who were telling their TMS success stories. He and another wiki editor named Peg patterned it very closely after Dr. Sarno's alumni panels, but with a couple of modifications for online. There was a great conversation that went on in the "chat room" part of the event, and we even went on for an additional hour after the success stories as people discussed many of the ideas that had come up.

So thank you, Matthew (and Peg!), for such a wonderful event. Several people commented at the end on how they were re-energized in applying Dr. Sarno's ideas, and I'm sure that everyone there was helped in their struggle to deal with their pain.

I really thought it went quite well. There were a few technical glitches along the way, but I actually expected them to be worse than they were.

I found the stories to be quite helpful and inspiring. There's something about hearing someone tell their own story, in their own words, LIVE. It reminded me a little bit of AA meetings (I'm not actually in AA, but have been to a few). I think it would be helpful to people to hold these on regular basis (kind of like AA meetings). Especially to those who find it difficult locating a TMS doctors/therapists in their area. Of course, I fully appreciate that putting this together isn't simple or easy.

A GREAT BIG THANKS to those who put in a lot of work to make this event happen! You know who you are. And another HUGE THANKS to those who shared their story!. It meant a lot to me.... and no doubt many others.

Just to echo what others have said - a big thank you to all the people involved in putting the event together....i thought it went really well, and i found it really useful. having live video feeds does somehow make the stories seem more "real" than just text on a screen.....

and if lettuce_dancer wants to message me about the pain relief centre in Huddersfield, please do

Gibbon - I'm not absolutely sure but I think you'll need to post that message to Lettuce Dance on the wiki as she's definitely a member there, whereas I haven't seen her here unless she uses a different name!

The "Public Chat" that accompanied the success stories could be considered the "surprise hit" of the panel. We didn't officially archive it for privacy reasons, but we did create an official thread to continue the discussion. I'm not going to clutter the thread you're reading up with a bunch of links, but a bunch of discussions and wiki pages have popped up after the panel, and I'll include links to them in the thread I linked to above.

I listened to most of the panel and enjoyed it too. The chat was really great, and I will definitely visit the site where it will be continued. Thanks to all.
