Hello -
I am new to the forum and have made a few posts over the past few weeks, which tell my entire story. I would very much like to learn about the experiences of any folks out there who have had the same diagnosis and have either had, or are thinking about having, a hip replacement.
Please note that I am a "believer" and have had excellent results in the past but this current situation seems to be something different.
I have jogged for the past 20+ years and have done yoga for the past 7. At this point, I am limping and can't walk half a block without pain. It's extremely depressing and difficult. I'm afraid that if I do this, I won't be able to do yoga again. I'm sure I won't be able to jog anymore, from what I am told.
I would appreciate hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Steffi |

Hi Steffi
I don't have any personal experience with hip symptoms, but I remember a forum member discussing it once.
Try using the search function and search for hip replacement and Michele.

I remember Tennis Tom had this dilemma, but he left the board so I don't know where he ended up with it. Would be curious to know.
I do miss a few of his political discussions, maybe he's a blogger these days.

Steffi, I don't know about jogging. I do know that they yoga is a no. Same with pilates. Dislocation possibility. That's what my doc says and I've asked 40x. Safest is water exercises. After all the pain, the surgery, recovery and rehab were a breeze. The biggest pain now is going thru metal detectors. Big Beep.
My only other suggestion is to get a doctor you trust. There was somebody else on here who had the surgery and wrote me for a while about how much trouble she was having in recovery. Turns out it was done wrong and her doctor wasn't listening to her. I was home in 4 days and walking with a cane in 10 days. Hope this helps.

I was rereading The Divided Mind and there are a few sections about hip pain. One doctor suggested that if you are unsure of the diagnosis and have severe pain and arthritis symptoms in one hip have your doctor x-ray the other hip. Sometimes the physical is the same in both hips but only one hurts...TMS could be the culprit. page 360... Don't mean to confuse you...Just more information. Good Luck Marsha |
