Hi Everyone,

I am going back to work on Monday as a Substitute Teacher in the school I have taught in for 2 years.....I took 6 months off this past year for a variety of family and health issues and Monday I am going back. I have to go back due to serious financial issues. I am scheduled to work everyday next week which is great except my anxiety attacks have increased my neuropathy is flared up and I am afriad my digestive issues are next.
I get so little support from my family so any advice here would be most welcomed.
Thank You!

Cee

Fearing your digestive issues will probably make them reappear. (I also have digestive issues, so I understand this far too well.) It's OK to feel nervous or unsure about going back, so just try to focus on being prepared to TEACH as opposed to being prepared to deal with TMS.

BTW, Cee, I think you were the one who was diagnosed with diverticulitis around the same time I was last year. I had a colonoscopy, and it turns out I never had diverticulitis. It's looking like I may have a gallbladder problem instead. I just wanted to tell you to have things checked out further since I was misdiagnosed and continue to have nasty abdominal pain.

Hi Cee

"I am going back to work on Monday as a Substitute Teacher in the school I have taught in for 2 years"

Congratulations. Take it one day at a time. You'll be fine. Maybe you could plan little rewards for your self during the week. Remind yourself what's going on with TMS and try not to get all worried about physical symptoms. You know what they're from. Try journaling about you fears involved with returning to work. Give yourself credit for returning to work.

"I get so little support from my family so any advice here would be most welcomed."

In what way aren't you supported? Have you asked for help? Have you been specific about what kind of support you need from them? Have you made it very clear, in a calm way, that you give your family support when needed and you expect them to do the same for you now? Maybe you should journal about how you feel when you aren't supported.

I'm not sure if you mean emotional support or support with household tasks, meal prep, etc.If you've tried all those things and still don't get support, you could try getting emotional support from someone else, or if it's domestic, adjusting your usual chores so as not to feel overwhelmed your first week back to work. For example, stop picking up after everyone, let the laundry wait a few days, prepare a meal ahead or plan a super easy meal (crock pots are great-cause when you come home, dinner's already made). Better yet, let someone else make dinner. I would suggest ordering out, but if finance is an issue, that won't work.

Good luck,
Peg

Thank you both for your replies. On Saturday night after 3 months of no lower abdominal pain, the pain restarted. I dont know what to do.....back to work tomorrow. I have been in bed all day with a heating pad and I pretty much ate the clear diverticulitis diet. I have medication for colon spasms but I am not sure what this is. My colonoscopy in early December clearly showed diverticulitis.
My husband did do a lot around the house today but he let me know that he is convinced I am making this up as not to have to go back to work this week,
