I've been doing a lot of research on gluten intolerance recently, because I thought I had it. As always happens with online research, one thing leads to another and you end up in a place you never expected.

What I discovered was that the symptoms for gluten intolerance are exactly the same as those for:

Candida yeast overgrowth
Fibromyalgia
Mercury filling poisoning
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
Sick Building Syndrome
Electromagnetic Frequency Poisoning (people who think cell phones and wifi are killing them)
Fluoride poisoning
Silicone breast implant syndrome

All of these are considered by most doctors to be fad or quack diagnoses.

Then I looked up symptoms of anxiety and guess what? Identical.

I actually do have a gluten intolerance and have been following a gluten-free diet for 14 years!

I wonder about the candida overgrowth because I've suffered with this condition for years. I've always understood that factors such as yeast in food and beer, wine, oral contraceptives and others are all culprits but I just don't know what to make of it anymore. I know Sarno says in his book yeast infections are TMS equavilents but not sure about gluten.

I don't believe that gluten issues are TMS. Celiac, gluten intolerances, and candida are all chemical reactions to gluten and sugar.

If an allergy can be a mind/body disorder (TMS equivalent), why can't a food (ingredient) sensitivity? The question is why is that person sensitive to that particular food, etc.

Interesting post, LIlith.

I'm not sure about true celiac. If I had the life threatening symptoms celiacs have I'd go gluten-free too. I'm thinking more of the popular current belief that gluten intolerance is a much more widespread problem than previously believed. And that most of the people who supposedly have it will not have a positive test or biopsy. So how do you know you have it? Symptoms. And these symptoms turn out to be almost identical to the symptoms of all the maladies listed in the OP.

I just find it interesting that there are a lot of popular syndromes going around, all of which are suspect as far as mainstream medicine is concerned, and all of which share the same symptoms. And those are also symptoms of stress/anxiety.
