There has been a case in the UK this week of a mother suspected of a mercy killing of her 31 year old ME sufferer daughter.
I've been reading the articles about this and feeling baffled because this girl first contracted ME when she was 14, and has been completely bedridden ever since, so seriously affected she couldn't swallow, speak, eat, remember things for more than a few hours....
the other article below describes another girl first diagnosed with ME aged 7 - who also has to be fed through a tube and has desperately severe symptoms.
Can this really be ME? Can these two cases be the same as ME / CFS which clearly has a psychological component? I have a friend who has been ill with post-viral fatigue / ME for a year or two and I can clearly see it is a TMS equivalent - she has the TMS personality; her illness follows random patterns and came after a period of some stress. But what she has been suffering from bears little resemblance in terms of severity to the cases described below.
I know that some people do suffer very very severe TMS / TMS equivalent symptoms but these cases sound more like some kind of degenerative disease or even brain damage - especially as both girls were affected so young. What do people think? Could doctors be diagnosing ME when it's actually something else?
I just find these cases so sad - especially if there was a psychological reason for the Gilderdale girl's illness, and now she is dead - could she have recovered using Sarno's method? It sounds like she was so severely ill she was in a living coma most of the time.
