I hate quotations. Tell me what you know.

while i struggle with anxiety now, i never experienced any anxiety until i was 23. since i wasn't born 23 years old - and no one else in my family has either anxiety or depression - i'm pretty sure mine isn't genetic. i'm also a classic TMS-er.

i suppose it could be for other people, tho.

I have always startled easily. An aunt and cousin and probably my grandmother on father's side are anxious or nervous as my g-ma says. The cousin developed rheumatoid arthritis (or some variant) as a toddler. My son is anxious and has some ocd symptoms. I have been a chronic worrier. My mother had some severe depression when I was a teenager. I struggle to maintain control of my emotions, feelings and responses at times. A sure lead in to TMS.

There sure could be something to this. There may be something in that we respond sensitively to environmental factors, light, sound, or other stimuli, and react emotionally instead of intellectually. Maybe something like flight or fight. I learned to hide emotional responses through rationality and thus buried many emotional feelings to avoid being overwhelmed. Of course my body system is still overwhelmed I just don't deal with it in a direct way.

Wow, I was not planning on going there! Interesting thoughts, these!
Please excuse my stream of consciousness blurt!! HA HA

Hi Kristin,
Love your thoughts; I think you're absolutely right. Wow, I have an anxious son w some ocd symptoms and I'm a worrier and my mom was depressed.(and still is to some degree although she's elderly). Your analysis spoke to me and I do think that a TMS lead-in is an increased sensitivity to the world. I'm recently coming out of pain after 18 months, and I see that even feeling happy stuff is overwhelming. It's like I have no emotional filter and I know that more work is ahead. Anyway, thanks for your stream of consciuosness!
