i'm angry at the universe.

the universe is inconsistent. it changes and fluxes endlessly, throwing random things in my direction.

i have to work for money. i need money to survive. even this system may collapse in my lifetime.

things are impermanent. pleasure passes. this makes me angry.

this universe was never built to serve me and satisfy my needs.

i am mortal. i am trapped inside a finite body. my consciousness is adhered to a body that can feel pain and discomfort. life is a struggle.

survival means breaking my back and stepping outside of what i truly want to do and want to explore, and paying my dues to society.

society is based upon rules. rules that care nothing about my wellbeing and my happiness. this world is cruel, and it does not care about me.

life. is. a. struggle.

love is a myth. it does not exist in the form we wish it did. it comes and goes with other people. other people will never fully satisfy us and our need for love. they are inconsistent just like the rest of the universe.

romantic love is fleeting. the feelings appear and disappear, just like everything else. the ultimate ecstasy is far, far out of reach.

my mortal body is a prison. it is only capable of certain things. this world is a prison as well. it too is only capable of certain things. the possibilities are finite.

to sum it all up, in the immortal words of the buddha, life is suffering.

now that's a lot to be angry about.

Wow, what a list of expectations! How about turning each one around and making it a positive affirmation and seeing how things can be different?

Yes, I just recently attended a You Can Heal Your Life workshop. We took 5 or so of our basic expectations, or things we have believed most of our lives, and turned them into a postive statement to use as an affirmation. Felt good.

And if those are the words of Buddha you quote, I know why I'm not a Buddhist!

Not that there aren't things that tick me off still. There are of course! But I get them off me (usually journal them out or talk them out) and move on. Example: you list we are mortal. True, but while I'm mortal on this earth, I'm going to enjoy it! Life really can be good!!!
